Transmission.

I had transmission work recently done to my 2012 Grand sport. I'm wondering if the guy stole my transmission because it has a tranzilla sticker on my transmission I just noticed because I had my oil changed today. I'm new to these car's so I'm not sure how to check or if this is my original transmission which I don't think it is. He tried to talk me into putting a reman itransmission in when only 3rd gear was grinding. I told him no, that I wanted my original transmission which he agreed to but I think that he still took mine and replaced it with this. Any advice? Thank you.

I haven't seen that TUET number before. Tranzilla trans are good units AFAIK but "I THINK" they only build T56's, not T6060's, but I could be wrong.

FYI, vendor here, Rick@RKTperformance, often chimes in with transmission ID answers. Might either wait for him to see this or PM him or maybe email him. Good luck.

Transmission

What I'm trying to find out is if he stole my original transmission because he wasn't supposed to put a remanufactured or a built one in. He was supposed to rebuild mine.
Thanks Tommy

GM certainly didn't install Tranzilla transmissions from the factory. So I'd say it's a solid deduction that what you have isn't original.

This is how to tell if your transmission is original:

Note the "FILL" marking cast within the recess above the "Tranzilla" sticker.

Look in the recess above that. You should find the Tremec logo.

In the recess above the Tremec logo, you will find another cast-in number. If your transmission is original, you will find an engraved number above the cast-in number, in the same recess. The engraved number will be the last 9 digits of your VIN.

This may require a mirror and flashlight.

Call the phone number on the sticker and ask who they sold that one to at the time you had it in for service. It'll at least tell you more than you know now.

Would it be possible that that they rebuild mine and put the tranzilla parts number and logo on mine. I know that's probably not it at all I'm just hoping for the best

Since you bought the car used, you really have no idea if that tranny was in your car when you purchased it, right?

I do know that the original transmission was in it.
The shop that I brought it to is a Corvette shop and the owner said that the original transmission was in it but it would be easier just to put a a rebuilt one in it but I told him I did not want to do that and he agreed to just rebuild mine.

It’s possible he sent yours to another shop to be rebuilt then he just installed it.

For warranty issues in case it comes back to them.

Ask the rebuilder and tell him that you noticed the sticker! Good luck

1stls7 06-15-2019 08:14 AM

Glad to hear for you. I bet that eases your mind. Did you ask about the sticker?

jimijam 06-15-2019 06:40 PM
