After 31 Years, Finally Got My First Caliper Leak...

...was on my '68 convertible's LF caliper, upper inner piston. Took the car down from the BackYard Buddy after being up there 3 or so years, rebuilt the q-jet a few times til I felt I got it right, went for a 20mi drive, stopped for 15gals of "no-ethanol" gas & had a huge puddle of brake fluid under LF tire. Drove about 10mi carefully & gently and rebuilt the one leaking piston & two seals. Buttoned it up and have driven it over 40mi., so far so good.
The calipers were bought in 1988 from Dr. Vette who used to be in New Philadelphia, Ohio back then. I believe they had a fire & went out of business maybe 15-18yrs ago or so. 31 years & 46,000miles is pretty good for not ever doing anything to them!!!

Agreed Paul. That's a pretty good life span for one of these calipers. And it's great if you can overhaul your own.
There seems to be a glut of failing remans on the market lately. I've come to believe the failures correspond with a couple of the larger reman companies moving to Mexico.
Lone Star is still building in Texas and still produces a top notch product.
