Peeling fascia paint still a big problem on 2019 Corvettes

Visited a dealership today. Four of the six new 2019 Corvettes I saw had peeling fascia paint. All issues evident on left (driver's) side near headlight. See pics below -- taken during a light drizzle.

We own a 2019 Torch Red GS ragtop built June 2018. No problems yet, but I ain't holding my breath.

Mother Mary Barra and Tadge Junkster should be hanging their heads in shame!

Disgraceful.

NinjaBum 06-10-2019 12:20 AM

Maybe this could be a fun game. Just head to local dealers and see how many corvettes with paint issues you can find and post up the results in here.

Maybe that will get their attention.

HOW was the orange peel:lol: so the new paint shop is the old paint shop it appears.

Wonder if the transport was to blame and not really a quality issue?

LuisZ51 06-10-2019 06:11 AM

Damn shame! They still haven't been able to fix my 17 with the paint peeling issues.

ShadowGray19 06-10-2019 06:23 AM

Pathetic but no surprise to me. Once again, I suggest you add your voices to my thread in the "Ask Tadge" Section of this forum. Maybe after seeing this thread, the mods will feel compelled to actually forward this issue to Tadge.

No excuse for the paint doing that. GM needs to make some adjustments ASAP.

Oh my.

Thanks for the post, was not aware.

Just purchased 2019 Sebring Orange and now I will keep an eye on/out for it. Always great info on this forum.

They lied about a new paint facility.
GM and Chevy and plant manager do not care.
The fanboys will deny any problem exists.

Tadge will do nothing, he is a complete dick. He has known about this issue since 2014 or well before that. The guy doesn't care one fuck aboout the quality of the car, paint, transmission, panel fit, wheels bending, dash leather peeling, the list is long and zero from that asshat. Go ahead give me a ding, a vacation, ban me for speaking the truth.

dave_2012_tt 06-10-2019 08:59 AM

First it is a little surprising of the paint...my car looks good I just checked and they just spent a lot of money on the paint shop a few years ago..right? Also, the yellow and orange are more expensive...I wonder is some paint colors have more issues than others.

As for as the Tadge comment - I really do thing in general GM cares about the corvette and the folks on the corvette team really do care. They have great support at the BASH every year...what other car company sends so many folks to the an event every year to give great details about a car....I do not know of any...if there are please correct me.

Now, is it a drag that the auto is not very good (they really should have gone with ZF) the rim issue is a little sad I agree, panel fit is difficult with fiberclass and dash leather pending they should fix. I do not see them fixing any of these in this generation - not that he does not care...just to expensive. I know that sucks for us but all car companies do it.

So far I love my C7

Looks like poor panel fitment and poor paint adhesive to the body panel. Both issues should have been caught by the QC folks. Obviously the QC folks are not doing their job. I tend to fault the plant manager more than Tadge, but I would expect Tadge and Harlan to do some personal followup on the product they are responsible for.

Newdude 06-10-2019 09:23 AM

Looks to be driven by panel fitment quite a bit (the peeling not the orange peel). They look too tight together.

Defend them all you want, they have not fixed any of the issues. Care? They care about getting paychecks and that's it. Do they go to the bash to look at paint flaws, panel fit, no they do not. It's a party and GM is buying the drinks. Seriously.

NinjaBum 06-10-2019 10:19 AM

Went by one of the local dealers today. Silver Z, same spot paint lifting. Not as bad as some of OPs pics since it was more right between the panels than on the face you look down at but I could see washing and not being careful causing it to spread.

I will say the panels don't look like they would rub at all on the one I looked at They'd need to be touching to cause this.

Could it be the way the panels are installed causing one panel to graze the other and cause this on a lot of cars? Paint prep still most likely culprit? Odd that it is most often this one spot.

2019Vette 06-10-2019 10:23 AM

That first pic you posted of the ceramic matrix grey looks how mine was... i also had bad paint on the rear too.

so far the paint on this 2019 corvette is the worst I have had on any car.... shame.

OVR60 06-10-2019 10:27 AM

Carless workers at the factory and bad quality control that should remedy the installation problem. Go on a factory tour.

jh225 06-10-2019 11:11 AM

You can blame the workers until the cows come home, but it isn’t their fault.

Very obvious by looking at the OP photos that this is a paint prep/adhesion issue. The paint is not adhering to the plastic/fiberglass/rubberized parts, pure and simple. You can tell by the way the paint is buckling and not flaking.

Panels rubbing together, panels not rubbing together, panels fitting perfectly, doesn’t matter. That panel(s) is flexing under normal conditions and because there is no paint adhesion, the paint has no choice but to flex along with it, thus causing the buckling. Otherwise it would be chipping as some have had happen, but that appears to be an issue once the paint has fully cured, later on. In the OP pics, the paint has not cured and is still pliable, thus the buckling.

Absolutely disgusting QC, especially after MANY reports and numerous TSB’s about it.

This issue alone has me seriously rethinking buying a 2019 or even a used C7. Add this to the other known issues and I am leaning more towards the don’t give GM my money every day. :(
