Brake dust and 1st time track
 

Hello

I am getting near 1500 miles and i want to track the car shortly after.

The regular red calipers throw so much brake dust and i hear ceramic actually sucks. Anyone experiencing same issue?
Are the pads prematurely wearing? I do not brake hard, ive avoided it, but I will on track.

Is there a thread to prep a 2019 z06 for track?

Second, can you not change out the pads themselves?

That's a nice looking car, could be my twin. The owners manual has a section on track prep, and there are many posts here on the forum about it. What track is going to let you take a convertible out, or do you have a roll bar for it? Just curious.

Yes, you can change your non CCB pads to Powerstop Z26's or Carbotech 1521.

Take if from me as a new HPDE driver like yourself... who just took my car to my second HPDE last weekend with the stock pads on there... invest is a set of track pads. Track pads work at the temps your brakes get to... on the track (funny that)... a street pad is designed to work at temps on the street... the 2 are completely different. once I switched out my rapidly evaporating stock street pads - braking became something that was consistent at every turn and one less thing to worry about (in terms of variability).

If you are spending the money to track and insurance and everything else... get a set of track pads... reach out to Ken @ @KNSBrakes and he can set you up for a successful track event for sure.

As for changing them out - you need a jack, a jack stand, a 19mm lug socket to get the wheels off... a 5/32 punch, small hammer, a 13mm socket for the bolt that holds the bar across the caliper, and a block of wood to press the calipers open... that's it... I did all 4 wheels in about 30 minutes using borrowed tools at the track between session (I'd recommend not doing it that way as things are HOT then!)

You will also need a roll bar if you are going to track your vert...

Check with your local club(s) on running a convertible. I'd assume there are some rules on that.

FYI, your red calipers don't have anything to do with brake dust. Pads generate dust. Also, the Search engine is your friend. There are literally THOUSANDS of posts addressing EVERY topic you mentioned ad nauseum. Not being a jerk just wanting you to know the info you seek is already out there in excruciating detail. It would take you months to read all the pertinent info already generated.
