best way to remove front and rear windshield?
 

What is the current best way to remove the front and rear windshield?
I know they sell tools that are a blade that you pull on but that seems to work better on modern cars that have softer glue holding them down.
Maybe I am wrong on that though?
What I have done in the past use use a wire and saw back and fourth slowly.
Does anyone have a suggestion of a good wire type for doing this?
I used to use guitar strong but it would break a lot and wasn't cheap.
I am not even sure where you would get piano wire.

Pick up some thin strong piano wire. Poke it through the seal and attach it to a wooden handle on both ends. You pull/slide the wire back/forth to cut the seal. Works good.

Harbor Freight sells a kit that works pretty well. From my experience, any wire-type cutter you use will break a few times -- the friction heat of cutting weakens the wire. thats why they give you alot of it

I think im going to try the harbor freight kit first. If its durable enough. I may buy more wire online if needed.

Agree, a guitar string also works well too, a wound string like an A string or D string works better I think attached to a round wooden dowel handle on each end. I bought the HF kit too which has fancier handles like so:

The long piece that looks like a fish fillet knife is particularly useful to start the wire between the glass and frame.

I always find the top edge and each side edge comes out easy, however when cutting the seam across the bottom, I find it is very easy to crack the glass if you are not very careful. Not a problem if the windshield is already cracked though.

The front glass shouldn't have any wires connected to the bottom? The rear glass looks to be a defroster type glass. It should have a wire somewhere at the bottom I need to be careful of is that correct?

MajD and i got his windshield out unscathed. Patience is a virtue with this..........removing the dash helps too !

I would think the wire you can get at home depot or lowe's to hang heavy pictures would work just fine. just need to get some wood dowel to use as handles and you are good to go.

80 # fishing string it's cheap and there's lots on the roll. Take your time and pull it from on the inside F Y I if anyone was planning on removing a windshield, I used 80 lb. fishing line. I threaded one end under the glass on the pillar and tied it to the gear shifter. Then strung it around the glass against the sealant to the other pillar, and poked it back under the glass. Wrap it around a stick and pulled slowly. Lube the string on the outside with plenty of soapy water. the soap keeps the goo from sticking to the string
