More evidence of C8 scoop shape... a 'duh' moment...

Was reading one of Mike Furman's thread and there was a discussion by @Foosh about a photo they liked.... this C1. Then it hit me... duh...

Haha hidden in plain sight!

CERV 3 also emulates that. People tend not to like change. Nice catch.

I forget who it was, but someone else posted this idea several months ago and pretty much got hammered for it haha

But that render is pretty much what I’ve been expecting to see for a while now.

It is a possibility but...

That rounded shape does not fit with the sharp and angular design language seen in other areas of the car. The headlamps, The ridges and pointed V hood design. The sharp angular tail light shape seen in the side view CAD. The hooked tail light s. The rear deck vent and glass shapes which are all angular as well as the rear Q window shape.

To my design eye, the scoop must follow this language to some degree. A rounded shape just will look out of place and awkward IMO.

The CAD image that shows the side inlet may not be the outer skin at all. I say this due to the many eyewitness descriptions of the scoop area that all seem to agree that the scoop is "more or less" angular like the C8R seems to be and may go all the way down to the rocker. Our earliest description from the infamous C7Pimp said and drew the scoop as a large opening and reminded him of the LaFerrari from a frontish view and how the scoop flowed from the door. He was correct on much of the description including the tail light design and rear spoiler which unfortunately for some seems to be more or less as we have seen it. At least this was the version he saw and described. The hood, as some have described will be exciting and may be polarizing and some versions will have one or two vents....

I could of course be completely wrong but any way you cut it, I think we will be surprised in a few weeks.

I disagree.. the slightly rounded triangular point matches the CAD exactly.... and matches the other shapes we see on the car like the front hood lines that flow into the fascia. I'm not saying the C1 cove will be an exact translation to the C8, but clearly, the shapes we're seeing on the C8 are inspired by the C1 cove... or at least have very similar shapes.

Regarding the C8R... I think that has the "Z06 cove" in that it extends OVER the door character line and down to the side skirt creating almost a secondary lower opening which will be brake cooling on the hi-po model.

Someone mentioned the front fender line coming down through the door and around the scoop on the quarter panel. That was on the "C8 teaser sketch".

That will probably be the "Z06" treatment... instead of the lower half of the scoop flowing into the door line, it will flow down to the side skirt. The general "slightly rounded triangle" shape still applies even here.

The first image shows C7Pimps lines on the CAD as best as he could translate. He suggested the scoop started traveling back then changes direction and terminates at the rocker. The forward most pink line is the door jamb/opening.

The second image shows some design feature we know more or less. Note the sharp pointy features.

Not saying you are wrong... because we don't know anything for sure, but I just don't see it being "rounded"

I made this overlay a while back. It is adjusted more or less to fit the side render and show how the shapes relate.

The RED rendering is a compromise that shows the inlet opening shape as a trim covering.

It was me, only a few people agreed and the rest were all like "Noo that's crazy, that's ugly, that's an old design"

Yeah, I remember him posting that in my thread a while ago. He was one of the few that agreed with me that that was probably the scoop shape.

firstvettesoon 06-12-2019 03:09 PM

To me, the fact that the CAD drawing shows mounting holes behind the scoop inlet suggest a body panel or trim must go over this area

Thoughts?

firstvettesoon 06-12-2019 03:13 PM

Regarding the old C1 Cove shape.

The new C8 design can certainly have a call back and pay homage to the design without copying it exactly

As a designer, I would never take the exact form from one design and planted on another simply because it will not fit with other elements of the design That is not to say it won’t be reminiscent of the shape but as I said earlier, I believe it will be more angular

I am looking forward to being surprised on July 18

It will have a snap in finish panel with an integrated screen is my guess.

Oh my God, I just thought of something- What if they offer two tones like the Bugatti Veyron/Chiron? That would be scary.

I'll take mine Turquoise Metallic over an Arctic White cove.
