Ranger AFM
I will be getting my brand new '19 GS vert in a couple of days!! I already bought a Ranger and just wondering how soon should I plug it in ? Should I take it out before my 500 mile oil change ?
I posted some pictures awhile back of a coupe that I just about pulled the trigger on and then my daughter said dad you are a convertible guy you won't be happy so I decided to go with a vert ! I will post pictures when it gets here ! Going from a c-5 so I will have lots of questions . |
*Range
I would break in the engine before using the Range afm disabler, |
I plugged my range in my new 19 GS at 200 miles. Pulled it for the 500 mile oil change and replaced it when I left the dealer. I have logged 4000+ miles in the past 2 months with no issues, ticking, shudder, anything....
Install and enjoy!! They are great beasts. |
Thanks guys . I will put a couple of hundred miles on it before I plug it in .

Congratulations on your C7. I encourage you to read the owners manual. There are a lot of features covered there.[/QUOTE] It is taking me forever to learn how to use my I phone so this could take a while !!! |

That's for the M7. The A8 goes into V4 in every mode. The only way to prevent it is the AFM Range device. Hence this thread.

I started using my Range at about 250 miles on my 2017 A8. Just remember to unplug it whenever you take to the dealer for service. It's easy to forget about it.

I plugged in my Range AFM as soon as my ‘19 GS arrived. My GS drives smoother than my ‘16 A8 ever did.
Check out this video where Tadge describes why they had to change the C7 drive line assembly from aluminum to steel to reduce vibrations created through the drive train when going into v4 mode (starts at 50 second mark). I don’t want my GS to go into v4 mode ever (can’t help it when taking in to the dealer tho). |
Thanks for that video - somehow I missed that one and had not seen it.

Using manual mode with A8 equipped cars also prevents it from going into V4 mode. I drove my 2016 Z06 back from the museum in manual mode, let it go into V4 one time to make sure that it could, and since then it has been in either manual mode or had a Range plugged in its entire life.
Fun fact: Euro spec A8 equipped Corvettes behave like the manual in that they only go into V4 mode when driver mode is set to eco. Too bad we couldn't have this setup. I suspect sometime between current technology and fully electric we will be forced to endure Corvettes equipped with both AFM AND stop/start at intersections :( |

What's the reasoning behind waiting until after 500 miles to install a Range?
|
I am curious about this as well. Why not just plug it in immediately?

I would just plug it in and enjoy no V4 mode - just unplug it when getting service. I just bought the Range AFM for my '14 A6 but haven't had a chance to test it out yet.
