Transmission change from manual to automatic
I have a 74 Corvette convertible. I'm putting a new motor in it and I want to change the trans to an automatic overdrive trans from a manual 4 speed. Which trans should I use? I'm not racing it, just cruising around. Do I have to change the crossmember?

The 200-4r is plug and play, the 700r4 is not. It needs a new crossmember and a shortened driveshaft and and diff, yoke.I'm dropping in the 200 in my 76

What rear end gear are you running? With a 3:50 you get the best of both worlds. Tall enough to be on the freeway, but short enough to be spirited when necessary.

call Silver Sport, SST , their kits are worth the money, and they install and work perfectly

Interesting. I've been pondering this also since my ROD 6-speed is making a rattling noise at idle in neutral. Thinking about the 200-4r since it would be minimal modification.

no matter what you put in you have to change the crossmember. you might be able to install the trans with the fixed crossmember while installing the engine, but a removable crossmember will make life way easier.
