Out-of-state purchase
 

Has anyone purchased a vehicle from Kerbeck from Texas? When I ordered my GS they advised they would be charging the tax, title and license and take care of it for me but when I talked to my bank they informed me mostly of state dealerships leave this to the customer when they get it back to their state. This will be my first out of state purchase on a vehicle So I am just wondering if someone who has already been through the process could explain how it worked?

Kerbeck's will do as you wish, either way. I'm from Louisiana and opted to take care of all the gobble-de-gook myself when I got home. It seems that Kerbeck's is required to collect the LA tax with the purchase payment, but wrote me a check for it when I picked up the car so I could give it to the DMV when I got home.

No issues at all. Perhaps, one of the smoothest, quickest trips to the DMV I've ever had--I did hold my breath, though, based on other experiences there. :lol:. If I could have, I would have avoided the DMV and gone to one of the title firms which have sprung up and who are super easy to deal with, but the check from Kerbeck's was made out to the DMV so I had to do the processing with the latter.

Btw, the entire experience with Kerbeck's was top-notch from picking me up at the Philly airport to giving me an identical '18 (I'd bought a '17) when the now notorious p/s issue occurred minutes before I was to hit the road headed home.

MacMulkin did a 21 day temporary registration in my name (temporary plate) . When I got home I drove it around for 3 weeks and then got the state registration. Worked great.

Same here (they also included the GM Certificate Of Origin as mine was a custom build). I took care of DMV paperwork myself

make sure you look up your local state/county tax rate before you go and inform them as they will charge the local going rate and be up to you to recoup when you get back home. Rate here in my AL county is 3.15% and only on the difference between sale price and trade-in.... buyer beware is always on ur radar! good luck, CJ

Every new car has an MCO (Manufacturers Certificate of Origin) regardless of how they are ordered. This must be given to the DMV of the state where it is first titled.

Well I am going through this right now . Kerbeck did not tell me up front that I could do it or I would have done it all ! They say they do it but out here in Calif they have a registration place that does it .Caught me off guard when I got the letter from them telling me they were handling the registration.
Now I find out that even though it is 50 state smog legal I still have to have it smog checked .The smog thing they might not know about but if they are selling in all 50 states might be something they should know . Make sure you know all the facts before you sign the papers ! Wish I would have asked more questions about the whole buying process .

Welcome to the forum. The big forum dealers sell lots of cars to out of state customers. Criswell Chevrolet (Mike Furman & Steve Krantz) took care of all that DMV stuff for me. They collected all sales taxes, title fees, tag transfter, etc. and gave me a Maryland Temp tag that was good for 60 days. In less than a month I had my new Florida registration and my tag was transferred. No visits to the DMV. EZ. I did have the option to do it all myself, but figured it was easier to just let them do it. They even knew about the extra $50 sales tax if you live in a Florida County that has a sales tax greater than the statewide 6% salestax on the difference between trade allowance and the new car price. Although I have never dealt with Kerbeck, I am sure their title person is well versed in out of state sales. Just let them handle it and enjoy the car.

Same experience for me with Criswell. There is now a way for most all states to do the licensing and tax transactions on an online database. It is very smooth.

I just got one from MacMulkin. They didn't do anything but sent me all the paperwork. Did the smog, took the papers to the DMV here is Cali and it was a snap.Nothing to get too frustrated with. DMV sucked pretty bad though with no appointment.

Like what has already been said above, buying from one of big national dealers is not bad at all. When I bought my car last year from Kerbeck they estimated what all the fees were and then handled everything. About three weeks after I had the car they sent a breakdown of the actual expense with a check for the overage. That purchase was one of the best I have ever had and I recommend them highly.

if you do it yourself you get your baby's birth certificate, the Certificate of Origin. Pretty nice, Framing looks like an old stock certificate. Scan it and then turn the original into the DMV.

Kerbeck is able to handle transaction for tax and tags for all states. let them do it :flag:

Bought 4 cars from out of state new car dealers. Let them do the paperwork they are setup for it.

If they'll do it for you, let them.
