Leather pealing off dash ... again

I had the dash replaced on my 2015 Z06 back in July of 2017 because the leather was pealing off around the defrost vent. It was under warranty at the time.
When I took the car in because the A/C actuator has failed and I only get air flow at the defrost vent, the service writer noticed that the leather was pealing off again.
This time it's a $3300 repair.

Not a happy camper.

That hurts! If it's not going to drive you crazy (you hadn't noticed it I gather) I would wait till ready to sell & see if it is significantly worse & might keep away a potential buyer. If you get it fixed now it might happen again & then what. If it was me & I could afford it I would sell it now (not fixed) & move on. The 2019s are REALLY being discounted. If you could do it now, you could order a brand new Z (1LZ Trim) for right around $75K @ 10% off according to dealer (BIG THREE) websites. If you order you can get quite a bit more off, I just got my '19 Z (2LZ) 10 days ago for 13% off versus 10% for in stock inventory. I believe the discount is even more now. Plus I got my car 28 days after order was put in by dealer. Mine was $76,205 with corvette loyalty but no guarantee it will continue next month. Whatever you do, sorry to hear your continuing trouble. These cars are awesome & I've been without problems on my '14 Z51/'16 Z06/ & sure hope my continued good luck continues with this '19. The power/handling is absolutely intoxicating every drive.

The dash has to come out to fix the A/C problem. I told the service writer to have them stick the leather back down with some shoe goo.

Sorry to hear about your troubles. I luv my 3LZ Adrenaline Red interior and hope I don't have any peeling issues down the line.

is it a 1lz, 2lz or 3lz?

This was a worry of mine and then I ordered a 19 last week so worry no more once I checked in with friend at the plant. Asked hon about it as my friend who had half the mileage I have on mine had to have his dash replaced same color dash as me also (twilight blue design package which is actually navy blue)
https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cor...a2abdd517f.jpg
I was afraid that the change this friend mentioned didnt happen until later on. Meaning whatever dash you got for replacement was probably old stock and didnt have the new adhesive procedure...

I would email Mary Barra and tell her you know they changed the way the dash is done now why should you have to incur that cost for a faulty design.

This was his dash.

Only 3LZ comes with leather dash.

Thanks to the OP for sharing the difficulties in repairing an extremely small, extremely high performance automobile where every part is packed in jigsaw puzzle complex. Don't matter whether it is a cosmetic or operational critical repair, the labor hours add up fast.

At least Chevy doesn't require the dealer drop the whole engine to work on it ala Porsche, or Ferrari or............OOOOPS!

The extended warranty is the best option these rolling physics experiments offer.

Doesnt cover the dash. Or any other cosmetics.

C6 3lz’s has the same problem. You would think they would have figured this out after after 12 or 13 model years.

Gm should give you a heavy goodwill discount as you can document it was already replaced once.

onebadcad 06-26-2019 08:31 PM

I concluded very soon after my 05 CTS-V purchase, GM is not concerned with the quality of their vehicles, interior and drive train.
I have also purchased a V2, C6, C7Z and three GM SUVs, none are quality, my 2015 C7Z has fuel/misfire issues-no mods and never been tuned, 3LZ dash issues, seat leather is mediocre, paint is not on par with kia--mine is garage queen with 11K miles.
GM, and probably Ford will not be around in 15 years, or less, they keep getting dumber and fail to fix their problems, their loyalists are dying off each year.
I love my cars, am not very requiring and try to think in terms of fun, especially after modding, but gave up years ago trying to defend GM's greed first, quality does not matter, philosophy.
Expect more issues, our cars go fast, but are not good for much else.

I suspect most people don't have those issues with their GM cars. The dependability studies don't show what you are saying. In over 50 years of owning them I only had one that was a problem child. All the others have given faithful reliable service.

Tough situation. If it was bad enough where you Had to get a new dash or re-wrap I wouldn’t go through GM for $3,300. I’d use the most reputable interior shop near you and have them re-wrap it. Good luck.

golfbone 07-11-2019 08:20 AM

Had this problem on my 2014 Z51 with black interior and 2016 Z05 with red interior. Both were fixed under warranty and I hope the current car does not have the problem again!

I doubt GM will do much to help after warranty. Good luck however.
