Corvette Garage Trash Cans
 

I was given these by my friend to turn into trash cans in my garage. I also got a couple other vintage gas station/garage cabinets/tool boxes with advertising.

I think these are pretty cool. They are just the right size.

Neat! Put some large commercial trash bags in there, 'cause them buggers are going to be a tad heavy to dump. :D

16 gallon cans are not much bigger than the trash can in your kitchen. Tall kitchen bags won't work, but large bags are a bit big.

They look larger to me. Glad makes an 18 gal trash bag.

That's what we called trash barrels on the farm. Couple of 55 gallon barrels worked well for that and depending on what was in it, you could use a little gas and touch them off and even cook some hot dogs over the fire (never said it was safe, but was something we did as kids). Hard to tell on those in the pictures, don't appear to be 55 gal drums, maybe something like 25-30?

Perfect size. Just don't do any burning in them if you want to keep the paint ;-)

Of course. I also got a small metal cabinet that came from a gas station from eons ago. And a tool box that was used for advertising.

I am going to take them to the car wash and clean the inside out real good, they still smell a little of oil. Either that or get some kerosene and kitty litter. That will even suck oil out of concrete.

One of the machine shops I worked at 40 years ago cleaned the floors every night. Sweep up the chips, spray kerosene on the floor and cover with oil dry/kitty litter. By morning, we would sweep up the oil dry and the floors would be clean/white again and then start dirtying them up again. But at least they were not slippery from cutting oil/coolants.

tie the corners in a knot before inserting. it works for me.

:iagree: - keep them as pristine as possible. if you ever decide to sell them, those things could bring in $100 each on fleabay.. people pay crazy prices for original automobilia stuff.

Are they 30 gallon size?
I would pick up some furniture dollies or make a platform and put wheels on them to move them around and also protect the paint on the bottoms of the barrels. These are collectible barrels. Very nice. :thumbs:

they are 16 gallon size. very easy to pick up. I will set them in something so that they don't touch the concrete. they were in an attic for at least the last 15 to 20 years

you probably keep them filled for use ! one day they will make good trash cans for you or someone

it is wild how some of these things have become so valuable to people. I saw other examples of that Anco wiper box priced at $175.00

I have a similar drum in my garage for a trash can as well. Works perfectly.

Used them on the farm to for trash, burning barrels. When we had to move or dump we would use the tractor loader or skid loader. Some of our 55's had removeable lids, can't remember what came in them, but used them for feed storage that we didn't want mice to get into. When we had a local glass plant had a couple for clear and colored glass for recycling.
