race+street 66 build

Well its going on 4 or so years now since got the 66 coupe. Its the second corvette I have had since 1978 when I had a 77 T Top and then in 2012 I traded a 55 TBird for a 66 vert which I sold to buy and build the coupe.Got the car from An old Hot rodder that realized he was to old to finish it. This is the first time I laid eyes on it.

So at this point I'm not sure what I want to do with it. So I get it home and start messing with it

At this point I realize I can't get a very big tire under it

I watch this Brent Jarvis video on you tube where he is road racing a bb 65 coupe and now I know what I'm after. I now know the fenders must grow. luckily my buddy is the paint and body professor at a collage he tells me bring the car it would make a good class project. So I do. I buy some aftermarket flared fenders and we're off.

I hate to tell you guys this but I only had to pay for the materials. To put all four fenders on was 800 bucks:rock:

Now for the engine. I know I want to run a bbc and want 700hp on pump gas. So I had Lewis racing engines with the help of Mike Jones cam guy build me a 496 and wala

So it makes the hp I wanted but the intake is to tall for the hood. I will get to that

FLYNAVY30 07-04-2019 10:36 AM

Oh wow....that escalated quickly. In for the updates!!

capevettes 07-04-2019 11:45 AM

That's alot of motor. Nice wide hp/torque band. That will be alot of fun to drive. Good luck with the project.

I've never met the Wolfman in person but I know enough to recommend him as highly as possible for any type of engine work. He has every doodad you could possibly imagine for machining engines and knows how to use them. I do my own work but it I was buying it would be from him. Afaik he's a one man shop so he does everything hisself.

jimgessner 07-05-2019 04:47 AM

Will this be a canyon runner or are you going vintage racing?

Lotsacubes 07-05-2019 08:49 AM

Yep..... anxiously awaiting updates. Big Red on steroids.

Are the valve covers taller than standard BB? Proportions of VCs make it appear a SB. Anyway.... love the vision. Post on!

reno stallion 07-05-2019 09:48 AM

Ok I'm back wolf man that's funny never thought about that but yes those wolfs are crazy big and yes his shop is amazing. Mike is like a mad scientist and a very funny guy. If anyone wants a very serious engine built at a fair price he's the guy. The car will spend more time on the street then at the track. So as I said because I had to run a certain intake the hood had to grow. We cut and raised the 66 bulge hood 1" but then the grills in the hood didn't look right.

The opening at the back needed to grow. I wanted it to still look stock and realized that the grill need to grow with it. So I asked you here on this forum for help. And that's what I got. Not sure if he want's me to tell you guys on here who it was but I will just say this guy knows his stuff and I can't thank him enough. I sent him a grill he scanned it and want ever else they do and sent me back the computerized info to have one made the size I needed on a CNC machine. Lucky for me the collage just bought a new one and all I had to do is pay for the aluminum

I'm going to stick with the hood for now. First we had to fill it in and then reshape the opening to if the test buck not the finished grill:smash:

I want the car to handle as good as money can afford so I was thinking aftermarket chassis but the more I researched it I couldn't find where any company could prove there shit was better then correctly modified stock pieces. Not to mention the aftermarket pieces must be made of gold. After gathering all the information I could the decision was made to stick with the original GM design and modify. I found that the guys at Duntov motors know just how to do that. I wasn't going to pull the body but now I know I have to. As usual I ask on this forum for plans to build a body dolly and of course the response was immediate. Thanks guys

chassis

My decision to stick with the original chassis was made because of these cars
https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cor...9786883898.jpgBrent Jarvis 65 road racer this car with upgrades to stock style chassis runs same time at road America as a 2015 viper
https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cor...349690820f.jpgThis car in a hot rod mag article can hang with a c6
https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cor...292d0d7564.jpgAnd this car just plain badass
