Cylinder Head Advice

I've been looking at Trick Flow 255 and AFR 260 heads. I've done searches on here and at ls1 tech and havn't found too many people discussing these heads. Does anybody have any experience with these heads that could make a recommendation or of another head that would be a great fit for what I'm doing with my supercharged 427. Max budget is 3k for heads complete.
1967 camaro pro-touring
5.3 texas speed block with darton sleeves (4.130 bore with 4.0 stroke)
Wiseco -20 pistons (around 9.6:1 compression)
BTR stage 3 pds cam
LS9 supercharger
Johnson lifters
Yella Terra 1.7 rockers
4l80e trans (2800 stall)
12 bolt (3.73 gears)

Thanks guys!

Why not the PRC heads from texas speed? You already running their shortblock.

I have the PRC's on my ls7.

So... you're building a 427" LS3? The heads you spec'd are not for a LS7 so you'd probably find more info on the C6 tech/performance forum.

Correct, I’m supercharging my 427 with the ls9 supercharger. I dropped a valve with ls7 heads and after the research, I’m done with ls7 heads. I want a head that is more reliable and I’m going to be making over 800 horsepower anyways so I’m fine. My 67 weighs around 3,000 lbs so I’ll be flying at that power level. I want ls3 style so the supercharger bolts up without adaptors. I posted here because I wasn’t sure if any of the ZR1 guys have played around with these heads since they flow more than the ls9’s. I will be around 12 lbs of boost.

I have looked at the prc heads, but they don’t flow as well as the AFR or Trickflow. I am running their block, but it’s not their shortblock. The rest of the internals I got from BTR. The bottom end is all forged from Callie’s and wiseco.

Another question I have is at what boost level should I go to arp studs for the head bolts instead of arp bolts which is what I was running?

I'm running Trickflow 255s on my TT GTO, its a 403ci Gen 4 forged iron block (9.8:1). They're great cylinder heads but be advised the valves in them from Trickflow are junk. They are the lowest grade Ferrea valves and will "tulip" under extreme heat and cylinder pressure. I upgraded my intake valves to the BTR Victory titanium valves and Manley inconel exhaust valves. I was able to run the original Ferrea's for a while but they didn't last long at 1000+whp. I'm at 1150+whp now and the Victory/Manley valves have been solid for a year now, probably 150+ full passes and 5k miles of street use.

I plan to swap to a cathedral port TFS 245 on the GTO and run the 255s on my ZR1 in the future.

Thanks, that’s the type of information I’m looking for. I have heard the Trickflow valves are not very good. That’s one thing I like about AFR is that you can go ahead and upgrade the exhaust valves to inconel when buying the heads.

For about $50.00 you can ship your original heads here....https://www.latemodelengines.com/index.php/ I had mine done there and they're perfect. They will custom build them for your exact project.

Thanks, I’ll have to look them up. I don’t have any original heads though. The original ls7 heads I had dropped a valve and I have already sold them.

Fixed heads arent the issue the parts used are

Innovate 07-06-2019 10:39 AM

PRC 260’s. Record ZR1 runs them.

Peoples Republic of China?

According to their website, those are six bolt heads. I'm only going to be using 4 bolt.

LS7 heads are fine if you replace all 16 valves in addition to the head work. It’s stock valves/coating + geometry + exasperated by 1.8rr, and 07/08 rockers if you have those. If you start with an LS7 casting and build with quality parts and good machining there is no issue.

piratebaseball 07-06-2019 09:36 PM

Ls7 heads aren’t an option at this point. I already have a ls9 supercharger and I don’t want to use adaptors.

That doesn't matter, you simply don't use the 6th hole
