Tires?

Getting closer and closer to being able to actually drive my 88.

Will do my best to stay outta the rain. No snow obviously. Will be driving it like i stole it. I dont want the rear to hook up like slicks.

Best street tire? All the research in the world dosent compare to real-world use. So im asking you guys.

Thanks everyone!

Going with C5 wheels was the best thing i ever did.
For my 84, i had one choice of tire...
BF Goodrich sport comp 2s, i have to say i loved those tires.
I only ran them for a year before swapping, but they were the right amount of sticky and handled rain and slush very well.

And that reminds me, i still need to sell off the tires and wheels since they won't fit my car any longer...

I like the Continental Sport extremecontacts I have now. I use the DWS06 on my Cayenne and its also a good tire.

Put Nitto 555 G2's on a couple of months ago. So far so good. They are nice and quiet too. And they are a reasonable price.

I have put 50,000 miles on my car since getting it. I had Eagles on it when I got it. I bought another set and wore them out.
I now have Michelin Pilots in it. They are wearing good and the ride it smoother.

6 years ago. No cracks so far. The eagles had weather cracks everywhere.

I'm running federal 595ss. They're ok, not super grippy so I can break them loose, but also not unpredictable. Super cheap too. They do ok in rain, not great in cold.

I've run nothing but Michelin Pilot Sports on both of my C4s, and can't say enough good things about them. I just ordered a fresh set of Pilot Sport 4S for my '94. If they're as good as the ones they'll replace, they're worth every penny they cost. I've logged close to 50K miles on the old set, and they still have tread remaining, and still grip like glue.

Live well,

SJW

The Eagle back then we're about $300.00 apiece. The Michelin pilots were only $200.00 apiece.

For the OP's stated purposes (not much rain, no snow, street driving only), an all-season tire doesn't make much sense. The Continental ExtremeContact Sport is hard to beat for the price. It has some of the best dry grip of any non-competition-oriented tire out there, and it may be the best in the rain of anything remotely streetable. Assuming we're talking about size 275/40/17 (OE on an 88 C4), the only Michelin available is the Pilot Sport PS2. This would be another fantastic choice - super sticky in dry and wet. The problem is that it's twice as expensive as the Conti ($182 vs $360)

For a budget tire, the Riken Raptor is my easy-button suggestion. They are a subsidiary of Michelin, and they have good dry and wet performance. They are inexpensive: $101. I run them on the street on my stock wheels.

Im in Florida and DONT or try not to drive my 89 Vert in the rain so summer tires are the way to go for me as well the Continental Extremes are a close 2nd for me because right now on tirerack.com they’re about $134 more for a set over the BF Goodrich if you include the mail in rebate both tires are neck and neck is n many categories though

I like a little tread on my tires.

It's of absolutely no use whatsoever unless/until you drive through mud or snow. That Conti in your pic has more grip and is a faster tire in the rain than the Michelin. It's literally the go-to rain tire for autocross classes that don't allow outright race (rain) tires.

RWR 07-06-2019 05:18 PM

I thought He wanted some info on street tires of someone who has put miles on them.

He did. That's what we both gave him. My only point is talking about autocross use is to show that the Conti EC Sport has tons of grip in the wet. Since his use profile is only going to be dry and a little rain, and no snow/mud/ice, this is all the seasons he needs in his tires.
