Eco Mode on 7 Speed manual
 

Thinking about taking advantage of special deals on a 1LT Stingray. Is the Eco Mode on the Stingray 7 Speed Manual ? I sure hope not as I do NOT want to be bothered with just running on a 4 cylinder engine.

Yes. However it doesn’t need to be used. I’ve got it on my 17Z and have used it once to see if it works. Other than that it stays in V8 mode.

Eco mode has to be manually selected. I personally use it all the time on long roadtrips.

Jump on the deals and keep it in V8 mode. :thumbs:

You don't need to "deal with it". As others have said, you have to manually chose it. I use it on long stretches of highway driving and I barely notice when it's working. Don't overthink it.

I use it all the time. It pretty much switches between the two modes seamlessly. When running in Eco Mode performance isn't hurt as there is no appreciable lag to switch to V8 mode when you punch the throttle. It becomes less effective from a mpg standpoint when driving in 7th gear on the highway. Any slight rise in the road level will cause the engine to switch to V8 mode so it stays in V8 mode most of the time when running in 7th. I found I get better mpg up to 80 mph by using Eco Mode and 6th gear. As for competing with somebody you can always switch it to one of the other modes as it is just a turn of the dial on the console.

It's never been activated on my '18 St'ray. Never will be as long as I'm driving it. Fortunately, GM gave us M7 owners that option. :lol: :thumbs:

Same here. I've seen as high as 33 MPG over a long run using Eco mode combined with cruise control on flat terrain.
As mentioned if you don't direct select Eco (and stay in Tour, Sport or Track) you'll never encounter 4 cylinder mode with the M7 - so its your choice :steering:

I'm with Bill.I use it often on highway/interstate driving on trips more than 10 miles.

Use of 6th,as Bill states is much better than 7th on hilly roads.

38 MPG is my high...pretty incredible!

Agreed use it while on highway long trips only.

Never touch eco mode, it fires on the same 4 cylinders. IMO that's a bad way to get uneven buildup on the valves.

After I use eco mode for awhile I make sure to hammer on her a couple of times

2018 ray, now has 12,000 mi.on it. Used eco mode twice to see how it worked, worked great. I don’t use it, don’t see much of an advantage with it. Recently did a road trip from Salem or. To rocklin cal, it’s east of Sacramento, I averaged 34 mpg with a high of 38 mpg, i to am happy GM gave us a choice.

Tried it a few times with my 2014 C7 Z51 M7. Got 1 to 2 mpg better on the flat section of I95 I drive in 7th. Been 2 1/2 years with my Grand Sport never bothered. Now with the MRC upgraded suspension I drive in Sport 95% of the time and Weather when it's raining or below ~40F.

In fairness, most of my driving is on rural back roads as although I95 is faster going the ~20 miles into town, 18 wheeler tire treads, cruising troopers and a 60 mph speed limit speed trap section - when I do I set cruise control at 7 over! No fun so don't use it often!

I use it on my car when I am cruising on the hwy. My best Avg MPG was 36.8. That’s similar to what my daily driver 1.8 TSI Passat R-line gets on the same route.

I use it ALL THE TIME!

I like saving money and getting great gas mileage (sometimes 32+ miles to the gallon on the highway). But hey, saving money and great gas mileage obviously isn't for everyone.....

I can't get used to Eco mode with my M7. I can feel when it kicks in and out and it drives me crazy. It's subtle, but its there...

2015 manual base convertible here. 39 mpg was my best ever in eco mode. Key Largo to Key West, top down drive in November and due to traffic and one lane most of the way you simply fall in line and average about 45 to 50 mph. I was in 4th or 5th the entire drive keeping the revs above 1500 really helps with falling out of eco due to winds or hills. I only use eco on long highway trips.

For track guys using it on the street I wonder how wear is affected? No way that 4 on/4 off has the same wear from cylinder to cylinder unless they system rotates cylinders deactivated.
