So much for integration
So after a lot of time i got everything wired up..speakers rsdio xm ,amp...and nothing worked. Removed the amp..nothing..removed the head unit and put the Bose back in..works..so its something with the axxess adaptor i guess..at this point i think ill just buy things and go for a total bypass of the Bose..
Lot of time wasted |
sounds like install issue, not a product issue.
maybe tell us what exactly doesn't work....no power, no sound, etch, and probably the car as well will help you identify the issue |
If you have power but no sound, did you connect the remote/amp-turn-on wire?
|
Nothing powers up. 99 vert
Crutchfield did the connections..i think the interface modules arent powering up.. Did the 30 second on off sequence several times..NG. Guess I'll call Crutchfield. |

Crutchfield did the terminations and all the wires line up. Theres power or the Bose HU wouldn't work. |
Crutchfield is having a good time with these things. They are sending me extra modules to try if this doesn't work out. They say the new turn on sequence is to disconnect everything, get in the car, close doors, let car go to sleep. Then hook everything back up and do the 30 second on off. If this doesn't work , plug in new modules and start over. PITA in my opinion.

Pulled the Bose out, got all the wiring where I wanted it, unplugged everything, shut the doors and let the car snooze for a while. Then hooked it all back up and did the 30 second on/off. Came right on. Messed around with the settings until it sounded OK. Rear speakers do not sound that great. Bad location in a vert. Big improvement though overall. Now have to do some sound deadening and try to make the rears sound a little better. Some Polyfill and second skins might help. Mounted the mic on the right stalk, Xm antenna I'll try on the left side by the windshield ..And replaced the sun visors with ones from Southern Car Parts, big improvement. |
So, some things I learned along the way...since its been a long time since I did this.
1. Once you take apart your doors and console..its pretty easy to do it again quickly. 2. Sound deadening makes a huge difference, even if you just do the doors. 3. Rear speakers in a convertible don't sound very good...might be better to use the speaker wires and go to a line level converter amp and power up subs. 4. XM/Sirius radio does not sound very good compared to my CD's. I was used to XM in my truck which does not have a CD player. Sounds very flat. Going to hook up my AK Jr player and see how that sounds. 5. Crutchfield is your friend. They may cost a bit more but you will get the real product and help forever. |

Ok thanx..I don't mind the rears being lower though. Might eliminate them . I did with my C4..but in that car I put 8 inch subs back there and it sounded OK...can't do that with this one. Corner subs look to be the way to go..but thats another grand at least

Click here for feedback from a forum member, after he adjusted relative levels in his convertible

When I'm in the mood to remove the console again I will do this.

Tried out my mp3 player..Askell and Kern AK JR...sound good
Still think cd's sound better..and this player has a very good dac in it..but you cannot use the usb out, only aux which might be limiting it a bit. Soundproofed the rear, added some poly fill and will see how it sound on my ride to the car show today. |

Your player's DAC should be much better than the headunit's, so going analog between them is the way to go to maximize quality. The only thing that comes to my mind is the source material, are you using a lossless format or regular MP3 to rip CDs into the AK Jr? |
Lossless
Adjusted the pots again and its much better now..they were up too much. There where so many over the top cars there that a little ole 99 vert would not be noticed..this was a huge show..the type My Classic Car shows up to. Also adjusted the cruise control clutch pedal switch and got my cig lighter working I opened the console up 4 times in 2 weeks..takes 10 minutes now And now I can hear how lame the Bose woofers are..have to be careful not to blow them. yet |

There is room for a 5x7 in the rear...you just have to do some trimming. A 5x7 will give you a bit more performance over a 5.25 driver if you're after more mid-bass.
Deadening is PARAMOUNT! |
Think I'm done for now..going to put together something good for next year and hopefully sell this stuff.
