Need a differential

Hey I blew my differential on my '84 automatic. ratio 307. My mechanic is having trouble finding one. I can find the bearing kits and the crown & pinion parts online but not a whole diff.

Any line on where I can get one?

ChumpVette 07-08-2019 02:59 PM

Location?

nickdb 07-08-2019 03:01 PM

Toronto, Canada

The shipping is gonna be a killer.

What parts are you looking to get for your Dana 36? Are you looking for a loaded pumpkin or the carrier?

Thanks

You DO NOT want a known '84 D36 3.07. Early '84 D36 were known to be differentials with problems and upon repair required different internals. You want a D36 that's '85 or newer with the 3.07. Using car-part I saw a potential 3.07 but it didn't stipulate D36 auto. A 3.07 D36 usually brings a premium price. I would think they're out there. Scarce and a premium price I'd think.

Yes. D36 is good insurance to have.

nickdb 07-12-2019 08:51 AM

yes the existing / broken one has a 3.07 ratio. 2 teeth broken off the crown ring. Thanks for the heads up. Indeed proving hard to find.

nickdb 07-12-2019 08:53 AM

2 teeth are broken on the crown. I think that's the extent of the damage. Was hoping to get a whole new diff but proving impossible to find. Might have to repair / rebuild. I can find the bearings and seal kits but can't find the 3.07 gears. Open to either the parts or a whole diff.

Did you try the one I mentioned using car-part? Yours is apart and 'on the bench'?

Yeah only seeing a "differential assembly" listed in the search list but no results in Canada or US.

I found several in Canada - the 3.07 is still showing but there's no mention of if D36 or D44 - just it's an '87. None of the others mentioned ratio. This one did and using my selection it very well should have chosen AUTO so D36.

LOOK FOR REAR AXLE and choose non interchange years.(I chose '87 - '95 I believe) There was many !!

awesome, thanks for your help!

Did you find the one that mentions 3.07- you need to understand that many are likely pricing these based on the assumption people are interested in them for 'hot rod' builds. There's maybe many options. I

nickdb 07-12-2019 09:28 AM

seeing a bunch with no ratio listed. some with 3.31. none with 3.07...

nickdb 07-12-2019 09:29 AM

I'll call around.

You're doing much 'wrong' it seems.

800-363-1216/450-375-5151 there's no mention of stock#

No I found one! Wreckers near me in Toronto has a 3.07 full back end

nickdb 07-12-2019 09:46 AM

He says it came from an 84 but it was manual. Is the diff the same if it was from a manual or automatic? 3.07 all the same?

All '84 were D36

JUST REMEMBER - YOU DO NOT WANT ONE FROM AN '84 UNLESS it's very late and you can confirm it's the later carrier and short axles!!

nickdb 07-12-2019 09:50 AM

Oh ok. I'll check it out. Few more possibilities in Toronto too it seems
Thanks again for all your advice. Really appreciate it.
