Max boost with stock internals - LS7 ?

What is the general consensus on the " safest " amount of boost on an LS7 with stock internals ( besides upgraded cam and supporting valve components ) . How much can these basically stock motors take before you have to start added forged pistons, rods etc. ?? This is NOT for the strip or track , but to be driven fairly aggressively when the need arises

Boost is irrelavant. ~700-750rwhp.

Like unreal said 7-750 is safe some push as far as 8-850. How long it will live there is unknown. I’ve seen heads/cam ls7 pop pistons from shit tunes. It all about the tune and the hardware. Don’t cheap out anywhere. I’m shoving my D1sc fed ls7 woth 25gph 100%meth. With 6psi and only 10 degrees of timing we stopped at 711whp and 635tq.

How long are you wanting it to last? Fuel and tune will be the biggest dictators. I've seen someone, local, push a little over 900whp through the stock bottom end and it was beat on pretty regularly for a while. Car was sold. Don't know if it's still running as it was.

700-800 if you want it to last a while
800-900 if you are building a replacement SB
900+ if you're wild

GX427 07-11-2019 12:54 PM

Fran from rpm Motorsports did a centrifugal with meth and pump gas 800whp SBE

Unreal 07-11-2019 12:56 PM

Yah, and other people have done 900+. One offs shouldn't be taken as the norm. Can a car make 800rwhp on a dyno, sure. Will it live there a long time when raced and beat on, maybe, maybe not. 800rwhp is pushing it.

True. Of course... he’s been on it for 10k miles at 800whp+ but it’s Fran he’s a tuning guru!

HouseS2k 07-11-2019 01:14 PM

@73DBG has been at 840whp for a while and he doesn’t baby the car at all. Tune is absolutely the most important modification.

GX427 07-11-2019 01:17 PM

He also has a forged piston plus he stinks at shifting

Unreal 07-11-2019 01:22 PM

If you think 10k is acceptable awesome. For a lot of people they want 30k-50k out of a motor. Either way, 800 is pushing it and take it at your own risk and be ready to rebuild it for any little hiccup.

Tuning WOT isn't magic. Yes Fran rocks, but tuning WOT max power isn't hard and most people can do that with ease.

GX427 07-11-2019 01:30 PM

What the hard part drivability? WoT is what we have to worry about when stuff can pop the motor I assume correct?

Unreal 07-11-2019 01:31 PM

Yah, idle, part throttle, driveability. WOT is just set AFR and timing, done. The only differences is how aggressive you get. Now this assumes you don't have a complete idiot behind the keyboard.

Big part of what makes people like Fran great is he knows what works, what parts to use, what setups to run. What cam, what headers, what blower setup with what pullies, what meth system, what fuel system, etc. So there is more to it than just the person behind a keyboard. His setups work great because they are complete proven packages.

I forgot he put racetec pistons, I reject my previous post lmao

A good tune, good fuel, and keeping timing in check at peak torque is the key to keeping SBE stuff together.

True.... but I’m not SBE, I did do a complete bottom end refresh and have forged pistons and hellfire rings, a very good machine shop with very high attention to detail did all the assembly, triple measure of push rods, sent two sets back, rechecked all of AHP’s measurements because he said he didn’t give a shit who built the heads it’s not going together until he remeasures everything(Khole’s stuff was on point though) I do have a good tuner who isn’t full of himself, meth and rev limiters until I had the fuel system for corn....I’m out of town but I left my car at the shop since the dyno was down when we put the fuel system on....stand by for new numbers with ethanol.

I’d probably say my car isn’t one to use as an “average” either it’s a 2006 with under 20k miles around 3k on the rebuild but yeah she’s holding pretty good and when I do drive it I give it hell....or it gives other people hell lol 😂

Boosted LS7 is a gamble regardless I believe and usually the type of dude that thinks....”you know what this LS7 needs....a little boost....that’ll really wake it up...” that’s a risk taker and we’re kinda a different breed in general, just thought I’d throw that PSA out for any “regular” type bro’s who stumble across this thread. 🇺🇸

Hey buddy!!! I’m a work in progress lol, it’s amazing I didn’t end the car or die during my “new guy” phase lol

shifts are getting a little better by the way fucker! :skep:
