Was sent to Damper Doctor for a rebuild....did a nice job with it. Came back black. Do we know what's correct black or orange? https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cor...2a3fa943a9.jpg |

He most likely painted it black so that you could choose your favorite shade of Chevy engine orange:thumbs:

Makes sense :willy:, thanks all |
When you paint it orange, make sure there is no black showing on the back side. Should be over spray orange/bare metal.
The periscope peepers will dock you a couple of points. Or will they? |

Question: I'm (slowly) reassembling my engine and while my balancer appears fine, what caused you to have yours rebuilt? Was the timing mark slipping out of alignment with the woodruff keyway? |

OP, that appears to be the SHP deep-finned balancer, same as for my L76.

The original engine was left abandoned in a barn and hasn't run since 1980. It was time to rebuild. Considering the age and state, the engine rebuilder recommended having the rubber membrane replaced due to potential dry rot which could have made it get out of balance or caused it to tear apart.
Gotta think that even though mine came off a running engine, and appears to be fine, that having this done might save a more painful repair later down the line. |
