Vote/Input: 19" MT ET SS or NT05R
 

I have a 2015 Z06 with Vengeance Racing Build (700+rwhp). I track a descent amount, AutoX frequently, and roll race frequently. I have been on MT ET SS Drags for approx. 3 years but must say I am intrigued at the NT05R's. I know for a FACT that the MT's will hold my hp with little to no spin but they do tend to get sketchy up top. Honestly, the race is over with at that point. Just wondering if the NT05R's will hold the same. This is my daily driver dependent on rain (yes I do get caught in the rain occasionally but that is no big deal because I slow down and don't drive like a fool). It's parked in winter for the most part unless it's above 40 degree's here in NC. People with experience on either of these please chime in on which ONE you would chose.

I also have a 2015 Z06 with the 100 octane factory tune, and I have been running the P345/30R19 NT05R for about the last 18 months. For a street tire they work very well. I have NOT had any problems with the car being "sketchy" up to 145 MPH, which as I understand can happen with the MTs. The NT05R will give you better wear for the street, but of course will not give you the same traction. For traction I would put the MTs at a 10, while the NT05R would be a 8. For tire wear reverse the numbers. I have driven the NT05Rs in all kinds of weather without any problems. Bottom line, for the strip the MTs, but for the street the NT05Rs.

You could look into the R888R’s as well. I have them in 18’s all around and they hold the power pretty well, although I’m basically stock. You won’t have to worry about instability up top or taking turns with them.

Well I went against everything I have previously known. I ended up buying the NT05R simply because it’s something new to me. Worst case scenerio... I don’t like them and buy my trusty MT ET SS’s again. Atleast this frees up the 20” rims for the Hoosier R7s now.

Initial Impressions
 

I made some significant pulls today at various speeds to include a few pulls from the dig. Street manner wise they feel like they hold as well as the Mickey Thompson’s on the street and definitely smoother on the top end.. well about 140ish for today. Once again this is just my initial impression so after I hit the drag strip and AutoX, I will comment more.

Wait, you only swapped the rear tires right?

I am debating on getting an 18" setup just for the rear alone for better traction. But was wondering if the mismatch of tires will cause an issue.

Correct. I only changed my rears yesterday. I have been running the Nitto Invos in the front with the MT ET SS in the rear for years. They have been a great combo for all the things I do. Unfortunately the MTs get a little rough up top so that had me thinking about trying something new. After a few weeks, I guess I will know if I truly like these NT05Rs. Yesterday’s impressions were great but like anything new, I am still a little hesitant with my trust. I wholeheartedly trusted the MT capabilities and knew my shoes were always sticky under me. I just have to learn the NT05R and hope it compares

So I can say over the last couple of weeks and a drag strip night... the MT ET SS are far superior than the NT05R. I have to warm up the tires first to get resemblances of good traction with the NT05Rs and thats kind of disappointing. I can pull the MTs out of the garage and kick it right away. I would also say the ride quality is the same. The only thing the NT05Rs have left that may be salvageable is the extended life but that was never my concern. Just my 2cents

I know it has been a while since I posted on the NT05R but I was truly disappointed with this rear set of tires. It would not come close to holding 700whp/700wtq.

Thanks for the update. I was strongly considering them as an option to go with the R888R and MT. My MT Street SS have been nothing short of amazing as a very grippy daily tire.

Thanks for the update. I had two orders cancelled due to being out of stock for the MT Street SS (325/30-19) so I bought a pair of Nitto NT555RII Drag Radials in 345/30-19 size. My 19" wheels are still back ordered but I'm hoping these tires will handle stock power at the drag strip.

I have been looking at the R888R but I took a $1200 gamble with the NT05R and lost. Not sure I want to take another gamble with the NT05R. I am sending my car off again to Vengeance Racing again for another build so that should put me around 850-900whp. No tire will be perfect but the MT ET SS has been the best for my taste.

What do you run up front with the MT Street ET SS 325/30/19 on the back?

Well I run 295 30 19 Toyo R888R. This set up hasn't let me down yet with daily driving and being a fast n furious wannabe on the roads. Just don't drive too fast in standing water lol
