95 corvette overheating question
 

I have a 95 Corvette with the 6 speed manual. I am daily driving the car and have been for a year. I have had no mechanical issues with the car so overall I am very pleased. I recently moved and now I take a new route to work which puts me on a highway for an hour with a 70 mph speed limit. Coming home from work at 4 am I will cruise at 73 mph in 6th gear I am turning about 1700 rpm's and I have no issues. But when I am flowing with faster moving traffic on the way to work at 4 pm at 80 mph I am turning about 2100 rpm's in 6th gear. After about 30 minutes at 2100 rpm's I started seeing smoke coming from the engine bay and I noticed my engine temp was pushing the redline. I slowed down to 74 and slowly but surely the engine temp started coming down.

I plan to check the radiator fluid tomorrow but my question tonight is this:

Is that normal for these cars to over-heat when cruising at 2100-2300 rpm's or does it sound like something is wrong? I had a 2007 mustang GT with 4.10 gears and could cruise at 2400 rpm's for hours and it never once over heated.

Clean the front of the radiator,. between it and the a.c. condenser or is it the evaporator I can never remember. You will be surprised what you find in there.

It is not for them to overheat at those speeds/rpms.
Indeed, check for radiator/condenser air flow blockage.

Also check to make sure the lower radiator hose is not collapsing. That will cause a reduced movement of coolant and an increase of engine temp.
