New addition to the garage
 
Hi All,

I usually hang out on the C1/C2 forum with my '57, but I just picked up this beauty today: a 1995 Linginfelter convertible 6-speed. It's in really good shape, 21K miles, and just needs a good detail. Carpet needs shampooing and the seats might have to be recovered. The seller lives about 150 miles from me. I drove it home in the 100 degree heat with no issues other than the coolant temp going up in heavy traffic. I had the convertible top up and the AC on. It blows cool air, but it could have been a lot colder and moving more air. I'll get it checked. The first question I have (of many, I'm sure) is that some of the plastic pieces of the console are very tacky feeling. Did someone use the wrong cleaner? Any way to remedy this?

As I recall, the console pieces have a rubberized coating on them. (If you do a seach you can probably find a bunch of articles about repainting them in this section.) I would carefully wipe them down first with a wet microfiber cloth- just water. If the wrong cleaning was used, it could be sitting on the surface. If the rubberized paint was damaged, you may need to strip them and repaint. The coating does wear and age.

Very nice,my 92 had 17,840 miles on it. Drove it 1100 miles home with no problem. Love the corsair on the wall.

Gorgeous C4 you got there - would love to see a picture of the engine with all that was done to it!!! Best of luck with her!! :thumbs:

The tacky feeling is common problem and does nit have anything to do with cleaning it is just an aging issue with the coating GM used. There are a lot of threads on the issue in the forum so you can try to address them. Most of the pieces that have the issue can be purchased new from some-of the vendors that deal with C4s. It is probably about $400 to replace everything but many have had luck removing the coating. I am not sure if you can just paint over the coating without having a future problem. If I remember correctly it involves green Scotchbrite and alcohol to remove it.

Nice purchase and a whole lot better handling than the C1s and C2s. Don’ t get me wrong, a 62 fuelie is still my favorite Vette, just can’ justify the cost.

Not much difference from the outside. I think they pretty much made it a 383 with crank, rod, piston, cam mods. The only external diff is a bigger throttle body (I think) that says: "Lingenfelter" on it. Also short tube headers and it drones pretty bad at highway speeds!!

I had the same TB on a LT1 Camaro a while back... never had any issues with it... And its a good looking car, but I want your garage!! LOL

Has all the creature comforts my C1 doesn't have, I love the look of the C4's, and.... they are quite affordable!! Pretty much already depreciated. I don't think they'll get any cheaper, so I'll enjoy it while I can.

That tacky/sticky feeling is the dulso going bad. Basically, any cleaner other than warm water will cause the finish to go bad. On my 95 convertible I removed the console parts and sprayed them down with non acetone nail polish remover and scrubbed the dulso off. I then prepped and painted the console black and used a satin clear to cover them. Looks close to stock but easier to care for.
My car is a driver and not a show car so I wasn't concerned with originality. Like others said, you can find factory replacement parts, but they are kinda pricey.
Good luck and enjoy that car. A C4 vert is a wonderful thing to cruise around in.

Is that Dulso a GM thing? I bought a console shift plate from corvette mods and it had a rubbery coat (flat black in color), now I noticed there is a shine coming through in spots. I tried the non-acetone nail polish remover (wiping it) and it did nothing. You mentioned scrubbing it off, I'll try that when I remove it

I know it was factory from GM when the cars were new. It might not be the same material from an outside vendor. So the polish remover might not work for the aftermarket items. I put the polish remover in a spray bottle and sprayed it down in my sink ( I was a bachelor at the time!😆) and scrubbed with a cheap scotchbrite type of pad.
Some people recovered the console with plasti dip spray. I sprayed satin clear from my hvlp gun and after about 4 years, it's held up well.

Very nice, If this is your first C4 I'll let you know they do run hotter than most expect. 225 fans low to 235 fans high. The fan off on temps can be adjuster thru a tuner.

Thanks. I did find that out. At stop lights, the temp would slowly creep up much higher than I was used to. As soon as I started moving, the temp dropped. I thought the electric fan was not kicking in. The I read it doesn't come on until 238 degrees. So I just let it sit there and idle and watched the temp rise. When it got hotter than I thought it should, the fan started and the temp went down. All is good, I think!!
