They called it a Supercar
They called it a Supercar . Not once , but twice at the reveal.
Is the Corvette C8 finally a Supercar ? Or as usual will it be dubbed just a sports car with just having Supercar performance , because it's fast and not 6 figures. After all it's just another corvette.... or is it... I think their right 60 k or not . Your thoughts as to what constitutes the engineers statement. |
A supercar is more than just fast, there's craftsmanship, tech, looks(although subjective they typically don't look like anything else out there). It's everything all in one. You can't really pass judgement on something that the very people who made it are hyping up.

0-60 under 3 seconds. Thats supercar territory.
|
Its a nice GT. That's what they wanted to create and that's what they made.
|
......of course they say it’s a supercar and everyone that loves their wife is married to a supermodel.

I would guess their are a lot of 3 second cars at the local drag strips but I probably wouldn’t consider any of them to be supercars.

Really? How many of them were sub 3 second 0-60 cars off the showroom floor with street tires?

It's a tough one. There is really no definitive definition of what a supercar should be. I think because the C8's cost is so modest and it will be a mass produce product, most people won't consider it a supercar or having the exclusivity of something like a Ferrari or a McLaren. And the fact that you will see the C8 pretty much everywhere pretty soon, and by that alone, it won't be considered a supercar in the same sense as those from Europe. And ultimately I don't think the C8 will have the same built quality compared to those from the EU. The current Corvette ZR1 already faster than most cars out there so speed itself may not be the only consideration.

May i just say... it is beautiful and amazing but it is not a Corvette or a super car??? I don't want to or know how to feel but i have owned c5s and c6s, grew up with a c3 and i just think Chevrolet has done it again.. a fail but a triumph all in the same measure...
Hands down to an amazing car but i just don't feel like it is a Corvette.. or a super car.. time will tell perhaps tell us as this has just begun. |

How about a healthy balance and call it an "American Made Sportscar with Supercar Performance at an Affordable Price!!"
|
If I see a bird looks like a duck, quacks like a duck and swims like a duck, I call it a duck
Now that C8 looks like a supercar (mid engine), sounds like a supercar (V8 natural aspiration) and moves like a supercar (0-60 sub 3 sec), I call it a supercar! |
Stingray = Sports Car
Z51/Grand Sport = Track Car Z06/ZR1 = Super Car |
I'm still on the fence about the car. I watched the live stream, live, and I will say that it impressed me more than I thought it was going to. Is it a supercar? No. It would be more of a supercar, if this was 1990. Im not saying that the styling is old, but the supercars of today, are all carbon tub, and have real active aero, See Lamborghini ALA. And they are also limited production, and hand built. The Ford GT is, to me, the only American Supercar, and I would never own a Ford. The C8 is a great base model, as it sits, right now. Im still partial to the styling of the rear of the C7, more. I enjoy the C7 taillights, and especially the exhaust. I would have respected GM more, if they would have done something like the Huracan Performante, or Evo exhaust. Even something like the 600LT would have been amazing. I cant wait for the Z06 variant, since thats the car Im most interested in. But, as it sits, right now, Im more interested in getting a 992.

The internet and especially the Corvette Forum proves the level of just sheer ignorance and blatant stupidity of so many users.
The DEFINITION of a SUPERCAR, and it goes back a couple of decades, is a car that can break 200 MILES PER HOUR. PERIOD. Not a damned thing about exotic, or hand built, or anything else. 200 MILES PER HOUR. and to those who will say, "but, but. I read on the INTERNET a supercar is really a limited edition, hand built, exotic..." go back to 200 MILES PER HOUR. |

Of course, it's up to you personally. If you feel it's a supercar, then that is all that matters. I only stated my opinions.
