What LS6/Ls2 cylinder head is this?

I have an LS1 from a 2002 Corvette and I'm looking to upgrade to the Z06 spec (not after crazy power) I have seen this head and I'm trying to identify it. So far I know the 243 casting was used with 2001 Z06, 2002-2004 Z06 and the LS2. The 2002 to 2004 were the ones with the sodium filled valves and that's really what I'm after. This head seems to have blue stripe valves which I have read to be the early 2001 heads, but the seller says the heads were bought new and he says the valves have green stripes. I asked if there was a year number on it and he said "04".

Any ideas on identifying it further?

For these particular heads your wouldn't notice a sodium filled valves vs not. if the price is right 243 heads are fairly good for LS1/LS6 stock castings. From the pictures they look good!

I'd jump on a set of those (I already have a set I'm planning to swap in the next phase of mods). Swap out the springs and call it good. Unless you want to send them off for a bit of rubbing and decking.

MURDEREDOUT-not many of us in LV. Nice to see someone else around here, aside from KITT.

Thank for the feedback, I do want to go for them but came up at a time when I'm already making a custom exhaust system. Do you think an LS1 with these heads and a cam swap will get to 400bhp? I want the cam to behave like a daily driver.

Yes, and you will get a bump on compressions as well due to the smaller chambers.

I'm doing a Z06 spec upgrade on my car. Cam, 243 heads, 1.8 roller rockers.

Are you putting in the GM stock cam from the Z06 or going for an aftermarket version?

Z06 spec. GM part #12565308.

Since all else is equal, Z06 heads, cam, inlet, and tune should yield 405ish HP -- at the crank. If what you really want is 400 at the wheels -- and don't we all, really? (if not more...) -- then you will need more than the Z06 cam, although perhaps long tubes and proper tune might get you close. Maybe porting the heads, long tubes, and tune would get you 400 at the wheels and OEM drivablity.

hi, so got the heads and weighted the exhaust valves and 65g so they are the sodium ones. One head has springs with blues strip and orange dots, the other a gold colour with orange dots.

Any ideas?

GM hot cam

If you want a mild cam and make 400+ just get this GM hot cam kit. Nice idle and car won’t be stinky. Significant bump in power.
But to answer your valve spring question just change all the springs to the GM blue springs for $80 and it will be brand new!

Did you weigh valves from both heads? I'd worry you have a mixed set -- not that I know of any problem with that, other than spring performance. Murderedout makes a good point about changing the springs so they are both known good and all the same.
Great web link he provided as well!

I don't like using the Z06 GM cam on an automatic car--because the Z06 then only came with a manual trans--- the cam's power band is a lot higher in RPM's especially on the low side ( unless you plan on a higher stall like a 3000) otherwise you are killing off some off idle to 3000 HP and TQ
My opinion only

Now that there is some applied logic!

Very good point and it crossed my mind. I have weighted some from both heads and they are the same.
So I will def get new springs, I've been looking into cams and it's a complete minefield...
