Reviews hit next week, will anyone change their minds?
 

We are officially one week away from the embargo on C8 reviews/impressions ending and we will soon be flooded with hot-takes and armchair race drivers complaining about the steering wheel, HVAC controls, no manual (the horror!), low redline, stock wheel offset, etc.

Is anyone waiting for the reviews before committing to an order? And for those that do have an order, will the reviews change anyone's mind about the car?

Personally, I don't see the reviews changing my order decision at all as the only other option I had in mind was a 718 GT4 and I happily gave up my allocation for a C8, but curious to see the weight others on the forum put into journalist reviews. My most anticipated review will be Randy Pobst - all others opinions in the auto journo world are taken with a big grain of salt (except may be Chris Harris).

I could care less about them. I will drive it myself then decide if I want one or not.

It's such a stretch to think that DRIVING IMPRESSIONS could actually sway someone's decision in buying a $80k vehicle.

I am looking forward to seeing what people have to say but I am not expecting any real "shootout" type detailed reviews for quite a while and not sure how much the big Mag reviewers will give out as they want to sell their November issue magazines. Also as an Aerospace Engineer I have become a bit jaded with the Mags (Specifically MT) testing procedures, as their allowance for roll speed during "0-60" tests produces numbers that are not accurate to the stated zero to sixty miles per hour timed test. Having said that, it is what it is and will give us a sense of where the base C8 stacks up. GM has obviously geared the Z51 with a heavy emphasis on 0-60 times so I am sure the base car will be very quick, but I am still not buying the sub 3 second time that the GM exec mentioned in the reveal dog and pony show. I really like the C8 (wish the rear end would have received a better styling effort) but from day 1 I knew I would be waiting to see what the Z06 is before making a buy or no buy decision, so the base C8 numbers don't really effect my purchase decision, but I am interested to see the full performance reviews, with my biggest interest being on the handling and the DCT on the track. Fyi, I am a current C7 Z06 vert owner.

It will have good performance but will no doubt be compared more to the C7 than anything else just due to the change in engine layout. Build quality is going to be subpar, there are just too many changes for it not to have some decently sized issues. Styling, most will gloss over as styling is so subjective, but essentially it will be considered a good styling (not great) with a lot of comments on a) whether a change to mid-engine was needed, and b) how this generation doesn't connect to prior generations in substantial ways. Overall, they will like it and after some moderate criticism, will say it is the best bang for the buck in the sports car world. It is a solid 7/10 but when price is factored in is a 10/10.

The fact that most people placed orders for a car they know little about should answer this question for you.

The only thing that could make me change my mind are the reviews ,of the media reviews ....
from some of our very talented forum members...

Car reviews are always subjective, and almost never reveal some major unforeseen issue that would prevent people from actually buying the product. I suspect the information published next week will be largely positive impressions of the car. I would be very surprised if there is any new information revealed that would sway my decision.

This is the most anticipated car of the decade and has been a slam dunk for automotive press. You guys actually think virtually anything negative is going to be said about this car? Its going to be praised to the moon and back calling it the best thing since sliced bread.

We wont here the negative stuff from the magazines for 1-2 years down the road when the hype dies down. I would honestly be very surprised to hear them say this car is anything but spectacular upon its release. C7 Stingray was the same and not even close to as anticipated.

definitely interested to see what they say. With all that is going on I would say quite a few would change their mind with bad reviews. Hell if a 6'4" reviewer gets in and cant fit I'd guess quite a few cancel their order.

Right now order in holding strong, but with all that is going on delays, hoping for a great review.

All reviews will probably be read and edited by GM, but some might slip through the cracks. Its one big happy family.

I would say of the Century... 2005 FGT possibly a close second but people have been anticipating an ME corvette for over 6 decades...

The other thing to consider is that GM has an enormous advertising budget so they don't want to bite the hand that feeds them.

Not really, but I am very curious to see how/if we see a C8 review where it is really hammered on the track vs a hot lap. I'm planning to hold off on a z06 or a gs (depending on what it really ends up being), but some of these initial reviews should be enlightening at the very least. I'd also like to see the weight verified eventually as well.

You're right. It is a stretch. So someone drove one. That's nice. But just because they have a B.A. in Communications and managed to land a job writing for an automotive magazine doesn't make them an expert. It just means they get to drive one first. Good for them and I'm envious, but what do you think they're going to say? Pick up any automotive magazine and read the average "Driving Impressions" article and that's what they will say. They're not going to say the car sucks; they're going to say it's great. Then they'll go on about some details we all know already. Somebody will say they don't care for the button shelf. Someone else will say it shifts really fast. It's predictable. And if I see one at the barber's I'll pick it up and read it.

But it's not going to change my mind.
