So, how's the steering feel?

Every time I start researching purchasing another old Ferrari, I end up asking myself why I'm bothering with these finicky things, life's too short. I'm just going to get a C8 Z51 and slap an Edelbrock S/C on it when they come out.

So how is the steering feel?

(I will fix the pix in my sig tomorrow.)

Nice to see you back with us, and Thank You for Your Service, Col.:flag:

Enjoy your retirement, you earned it.

LTC Z06 04-10-2020 01:17 PM

Hey what's up?

1bdvet 04-10-2020 02:32 PM

Nice to see you back here again, I know you overseas, but glad you are safe back with us again, and perhaps back in the seat of Corvette again.

Stay safe with this nasty Virus, right now nothing to do but take a cruise, or look at 4 walls! I prefer the cruise.

Stay well, and enjoy being retired.

I still own a Porsche GT4, the C8 feels quite numb to be honest and its disappointing.

I need to get more miles on my car before Thursday when Matt Farah is going to take my car out for a One Take on his Smoking Tire show. So far from the limited driving, the steering feels numb, power is good though. Its hard though to compare a base Corvette to a GT4 as I'm sure the Z06 will feel much more connected with firmer bushings and such.

hard to compare because the Vette is better!

Haha no but for the money the C8 is great but there is no substitute for a Porsche. It'll be a fun toy to thrash in the canyons and track this summer.

It looks like you're in SoCal, come join us at a SpeedDistrict event this summer! I'm likely selling the GT4 this summer to pick up a 991.2 GT3RS but I'm very tempted to buy a McLaren 600LT Spider. I'll track the C8 and enjoy it but its more for the lady in my life : )

I love my 991.2 GT3RS. Just a fantastic car. I'm working on a deal for 600LT coupe right now. They will be a fun pair!

KOTYKB 04-10-2020 03:51 PM

/\ Psssshhhhh JEALOUS!!! I ordered the C8 back in September and I have been really excited to get it but its almost disappointing because I should have just bought a 600LT. I have $91k into my C8 where I could have bought a 600LT Spider for $220k used... Once prices continue to drop, I'll make a move on a GT3RS or 600LT this summer/fall.

Might be a tad difficult to slap on a supercharger because you will have no access to the front of the engine where the belts and pulleys would go.

Compared to the majority of Porsche’s sports car, I would think it highly improbable that the C8’s steering wouldn’t feel somewhat numb. But the real question is this: is it accurate?

I've only owned Porsche GT cars (GT3/GT4) recently and have driven McLaren, Ferrari, Lamborghini's enough over the past few years to say definitively that the C8 steering feels numb. For the general C8 buyer they'll think its fantastic but for an enthusiast, it doesn't feel connected as well as I'd like. Like I said above, the Z06 should have better steering feel since it'll be track oriented.

FinsterforstFan 04-10-2020 05:23 PM

The Porsche GT cars will definitely spoil you. I recently drove a McLaren 570GT, which is not really a track oriented car, and boy was it a disappointment compared to my 3RS. It felt very numb to me in steering feel, brake feel, and had very little sound in the cabin. It's a cool looking car, and actually felt like it had more power than my 3RS, but I thought it was boring to drive.

The McLaren Sport Series still have hydraulic steering which I love, the GT is soft due to the trim, S is pretty good, and the LT feels on par with a GTXRS from Porsche. I agree 100% that Porsches ruin you, everything else is really hard to match up against it. I had an Audi Q5 as a daily driver but a few months ago I had to trade up to a Macan GTS, the brand really sucks you in.

I feel the opposite.

I find the steering to be very direct, you get feedback from the road and weight is nice. It's super easy to place the front tires exactly where you want them. To me, the steering feel is not that much different than my GT4... if anything, the car responds more urgently to steering input. The reality is steering "feel" is massively subjective.
