Used 911 or new C8 ??

Hi

I spoke to the dealer today and due to the current production situation they will allow me to cancel my order and refund my deposit. I love the C8 but I have also always wanted a 911. I was thinking somewhere between 2013 and 2019...A low mileage 911 Carrera S...it will most likely cost me a bit more than the C8, maybe about 10 to 20k canadian dollars....I would like some advice...should I wait for the C8 or go for a used 911?

Thanks

Paul

Depends what you like. Some people wouldn’t be caught dead in a Corvette. And some people wouldn’t be caught dead in a foreign car. Buy what you’re comfortable with.

Have you ever owned a late model 911? Are you aware of the maintenance and repair costs?

The 911s are great cars and I would love to own one but no dealer near me and I'm fearful of the cost of ownership.

If you want logical advise dont come to this forum, use your own brain, not the opinion of a faceless person(who could be 14 years old) on the internet.

Hi
No I have not owned a 911 but I have a friend who repairs them, so I can get a good deal on maintenance. As I said I do love the C8..its a great value for the money...I'm just getting tired of waiting plus I dont know what the cost of ownership will be on the C8.....

I have owned several 911s including various 996s, 997s and the 991 base model and 991 GT3s. I kept my 997 turbo s cabriolet which is a permanent keeper but the C8 drives better than the 997 and older models and at least as good as the 991 models. I prefer my C8 to the 991 base, S or GT3(for street use). I haven’t taken my C8 to the track yet so can’t compare there.

If you haven't been on here very much it starts out OK, then it turns into a bit of a melee, usually ending with one self absorbed Porsche fan getting everyone pissed and then the thread gets locked. It won't take long now, you threw the chum in the water with 911 in the title. He'll be here soon acting innocent and impartial all the while feeling superior to everyone else. It doesn't happen most times, it happens EVERY time.

Just curious. Were you at event Code 1100 or 3000?

My understanding is that at 3000 your Deposit isn't refundable since the Factory accepted the Order and the Dealer would be stuck with the Car after it was built.

"I love the C8 but I have also always wanted a 911". I believe you answered your question.

what dealer would mind getting "stuck" with a C8?

They said I was at 3000 but realize that the Pandemic situation has made it difficult for customers so they would allow me to cancel... I read a few comparisons on the net and I will stay with the C8. Its better value for the money. I would be getting an older Porsche and I dont know the maintenance costs. At least I can get an extended warranty on the C8. Now if they could just build it and ship it i would be happy!

How about a Cayman GT4? For the price of low-milage 911's, I think the GT4 is a better deal. They'll also hold their value better so you can sell it an get a C8 down the line.

Hi everyone

Thanks for all of your advice..especially the one where I was told to go to a bath house and bang everyone in it ..I guess with legal weed you can get all types of advice...lol:rofl:

I googled and found a few comparisons and the vette does beat or equal the 2020 911 in many areas. It especially wins in value. So I have decided to keep my order in play and patiently wait for production.

Thanks!

Congrats on your decision.
I am sure that your dealer is real happy too.
He's thinking that he will get one for the floor and make an easy 10K over sticker because of low supply.
Now he is going to be PO'ed:rofl::rofl:...
Just kidding with you. Enjoy your new C8, it'll be here sooner than you know it.

A five, six, or seven year old 911 with no warranty vs. a brand new C8. Would you really need to give that one much thought?

You should go for a 2017-2019. You get a 3.0L turbo whether you take a base or S. Not worth spending extra money for a S, just buy a base and tune it to S hp equivalent. You won't find a 2013 under 65k and you can easily find a 2017 for 85k. Definitely worth the 20k. Have fun shopping.

Should I have used another word?

Obviously the Dealers who won’t refund a Deposit once 3000 Order Status is reached think they are stuck with the Car. If not, they would give a Refund any time until the Customer comes to pickup their Car.

Deposit refunds are entirely a dealer by dealer discussion. There is no one decision fits all.

You are in the position I was in before the reveal. At the end of the day I really didn't want a high performance sports car that someone else "broke in". I knew with the C8 the maintenance would be nonexistent by comparison, plus I will have a full bumper to bumper warranty. For the same price I'm getting the C8 I would end up with a 8-10 year old car with miles, questionable history, and no warranty with less performance. It's still your money, but..........
