GM is Shifting the Corvette Team over to its EV Program

BREAKING NEWS over on the front page, guys. CONFIRMED by GM.

BREAKING: GM Commits to ‘an All-Electric Future’ and Shifts Corvette Engineers Over to Autonomous and Electric Vehicles Program

RapidC84B 08-27-2020 12:36 PM

So the B team gets to finish the performance variants of the C8?

fast not first 08-27-2020 12:54 PM

The whole Corvette team  What a drastic decision! I don't think they have thought this through well :crazy2:

OnPoint 08-27-2020 12:59 PM

The beginning of the end for our beloved, all-engine, Corvettes.

ChevyChad 08-27-2020 01:00 PM

Not sure what to think about this.. Electric certainly has its pros and cons.

Zaro Tundov 08-27-2020 01:18 PM

This isn't as dramatic as it's made to seem in the article. For now it is primarily an organizational change with a few personnel changes so the entire team is not being reassigned to other work. Check out this InsideEVs article:

In practical terms, the shift will see Tadge Juechter stay on as the Executive Chief Engineer for Global Corvette. He has been involved with the Corvette program for its past three generations. Ed Piatek, the Corvette Chief Engineer will have a new role and title: Chief Engineer - Future Product. Finally, Josh Holder is being named Chief Engineer for Global Corvette, taking Piatek's place.

Having problems with a simple frunk closure.....another all new "reconfigured" Corvette with MORE computers and electric wiring...we can only wait and see.

Palmer 08-27-2020 01:26 PM

Updated the article. GM called us to clarify that "the same team that’s already working on the Corvette will finish all current projects. Presumably, this means the Z06 and ZR1 and any other crazy edition we know is coming. It’s just that the Corvette team is ALSO working under this new direction."

Sell your GM stock. I and many others will NEVER buy an electric Corvette. They will lose the performance market as well as all the rest of vehicle markets.

SouthernSon 08-27-2020 01:32 PM

I can see all current vettes gaining in value immediately. Can't stand to watch any form of eRacing with their "hhhmmmmmmmm-wwwhheeeerrrrrrrrr". Wake me up!!!!!! Got to be a nightmare!!!!!!!!:willy:

Nobody ever saw this coming. Electric Corvette -- who could have imagined that?
Oh wait, somebody did say this would happen and soon. Hmmm, who was that guy?

I completely understand where you're coming from, but have you ever raced a Tesla? The performance is OUTSTANDING.

GM makes its money selling trucks and SUVs. Corvette adds very little to the bottom line.
OTOH, the E-Ray will be much faster and cheaper to build once battery costs are reduced. No oil changes either.

Are you trying to say Government Motors has a direct line to a guy sleeping in his basement waiting for ground hog day? (NOV 3)

From a stoplight maybe. I was able to reel them in on the highway in my C5 once we pass 100, no problem. Not interested in an all-electric hotrod. Hybrid, on the other hand...

mikelj 08-27-2020 01:54 PM

Associated new flash: With GM focusing on an "all electric" future this long time GM car buyer about to buy the last GM car I will ever own........what a bunch of idiots.

I think we're gonna see a hybrid long before all-electric. The question, to me at least, is will it be the Z06 or ZR1 where it debuts. OR, will it be like Ford's new PowerBoost feature where it's available on multiple trim levels? Time will tell.

Maybe that's why they are shifting people over to the electric avenue

Bring it on C9. Perfect transition.
