IS it just me or have C4 values tanked?

Checking kbb.com, edmunds.com it appears C4's have dropped further yet in resale. Of course there's always nada.com values to cheer us up, but we all know those are inflated and only claimed accurate by dealers during buy negotiations on something in their inventory.

Edmunds put my '95 'vert w/ 32,500 miles at like $15,000 for good cond.

I have a friend who is buying 2000 conv'ts for $27K at the dealer auctions, so I guess that has a lot to do with it. The market gets soft in the winter.

The Sep. issue of Corvette Fever put your '95 Vert in good condition at $20,700, down about 1% from prior year, though mileage wasn't listed as a factor.

Its not just you they are going down. In the for sale section there are spectacular deals all the time on top quality cars.

Low vette prices are good for some of us. =)

I'd love to find a good cond '95 with 32K miles for $15,000 when the time comes.

When I lived in Ohio there was a dealer with a '96 LT4 with only like 11,000 miles, but they wanted like $24K for it.

If and when I ever decided to sell, my '95 with 111,000 miles on it, I would let go for $13k. But of course, I could never sell my baby.

 Keep the Faith! :D

Since most Vette purchases are financed, 0%, 0 down on New ones has severely weakened the market on all of them, not just C4'. C3's have suffered less since I think they are largely cash sales and I think are mostly bought by people who want that model, not just people who want a Vette at the best monthly payment.

That's not a criticism of anyone BTW!

I have about 20 G's invested in mine and as far as I am concerned, it's still holding it's value...it's value to me, that is!

Hopefully, I won't have to sell it anytime soon!

Jack

The internet has enabled the wholesale distributors to offer cars to the public. These guys make arrangements with the new car dealers to take the trade-ins and move them along. They used to broker the cars to auctions and/or used car lots, not selling direct to the public, but things are changing. The usually work on a few hundred dollars profit on each car, making their money by moving a couple of hundred cars per month. Now they cherry-pick certain vehicles and advertise them on the net. If it doesn't sell in 2 weeks, off to auction it goes. Last July I bought my '94 coupe for a little over $11K from one of these wholesalers.

You think you could get $13k for it? I had the feeling that over 100,000 miles that the price went pretty well near or under the $10k mark... I'm not optimistic as to what my '93 with 128,000 miles will bring...

That is the overlooked part of this price meltdown. A whole lot of new Vette lovers have gotten on board. My daughter was dreaming of getting a Harley, Yahoo ID Blondies883 and all. After riding in my 94 and seeing me smile so much she jumped when the prices on used Vettes cratered. She got a 91 coupe for $13K and loves it. Last Saturday she went out in the Vette with the weather in the 30s. Try that on a Harley!

Now she's a Vette lover for life, and the 91 is just a start on moving up the feeding chain. Heck, $13K is less than my son paid for a BASE Honda hatch and it's a Vette!

For me, circumstances dictate keeping my 94 for a long time, but the prices don't hurt me at all. Now if the 2000 verts come down to $18K I will have to rethink my position.

Were it not for lowered 'vette prices, I'd be driving a mustang or a 3000GT right now. I've always wanted a 'vette, and one night I decided to stop by the chevy dealer on a whim. I told them I couldn't pay more than $9k, and wouldn't you know it if I drove home the next day with a '90 coupe with 87k miles :D :D :D

most have. the super low mileage collector quality cars are doing fine. keep in mind that most c4's are not in this group so the ones that are stand out. the price will come back up in time. they all do.

I think the late model F-bodies also have something to do with it. They just got faster and faster after '93 and all those cars are getting cheaper and cheaper. For somebody that just wants to go fast a '96 F-body might look a lot more attactive than an '89 vette for the same money. Just a theory.

Re: IS it just me or have C4 values tanked? (Lone Ranger)

A guy has his 60,000 mile 88 coupe in the paper this week for just $8995(wish I had the extra $$$$). Two years ago that was a $13,000 car easy. 5 years ago 84-85s with that mileage would bring $13,000, now go for $6000.

Point is, maybe some guy who never could afford a Vette will see that 88 or an 84-85 and buy them instead of a some Fox-bodied Mustang GT (been there done that). Low prices expose a whole new bunch of people to our cars who otherwise would be priced out, and that can't be bad. :seeya

Corvette values:
They're all over the place. In one part of the country a 93 coupe is under 10k.
Where I live you can't buy one for under 12k. Never mind what KBB says, replacement cost is really closer to what a car is worth.
The average 93 coupe is 13-14k its been there for the last year.
So for me to replace my 93 coupe it would cost me 12-14k. My car is worth what I paid for 2 years ago.
According to KBB its worth whls $9,500 retail its valued at $15,400.
Its actual value is its replacement cost 12-14k.

Out there:
Theres a fellow here with 67 427 coupe for $110,000. Its been for sale for at least 1 year. It will never bring that kinda money.
If you want to know what your car is really worth look for a replacement, you'd be surprized. :flag

I know that if prices were not so low, I would not have added another vette to my 1971 454 LS5. My 89 vert with 70,000 miles was only $10,000. Now I have two where before I would only have one! Now wait until I have to sell it, then you will hear some real gripng!

it all depends on the car. that car is worth that if its the right car. keep in mind its easier to sell a $100,000 house than a $1,000,000 house because there is a smaller market.
