Opinions, please, on interior color for my bright yellow 74
I have a 74 Bright Yellow (paint code 56L) with an “OK” repaint done by a PO. The interior is (was) Light Saddle.
I plan to keep the body this color, and it will be a while before I even consider having it repainted as the current resto is draining my bank account. It will be a driver car with a chance of taking it to a local charity car show once in a while, but likely never a “show car”. Im in the process of rewiring the whole car and the interior is currently gutted. The original carpet was in shambles, seats are very worn, most interior pieces including the door panels are falling apart. I like the Light Saddle, but since I’m replacing most of the interior parts, I’m wondering how a red interior would look. It wasn’t a color option from the dealership, and I’ve only found pics online of one c3 that has that color combo, and must have been a resto job. Is this a sign? It seems like an interesting combination, but without seeing one in person or good pictures, it’s kinda hard to tell if I’d like it or not. Anyone else have pics of this color combo? I really don’t want to buy all new red parts and get it put together and hate the look then turn around and dye the entire interior or be forced to repaint the car. I’m open to opinions, weird looks, or flogging. 😂 Any suggestions? Go back to saddle color? I like black, but may be too hot in the summer? I even thought about a 2- tone black & red interior, but might be too many colors going on with the yellow exterior. Opinions appreciated! https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cor...79baf1125.jpeg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cor...6fde1d2cb.jpeg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cor...8a169441a9.png Only pics I could find of the yellow/red c3 combo online https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cor...ac7250a326.png |
Yellow, with a red interior? Makes me think of a hot dog, drowning in mustard. Medium saddle would be a nice combo, with black, as a second choice.

But you have a good point…. |
There is a reason many fast food chains use red & yellow. For a car..... NO please. The saddle interior with a yellow car would be my first & favorit choice, followed by black.

There is a chance the yellow/red combo you found online came from the factory.
You could order any color combination you wanted. When I ordered my '76 I originally wanted saddle. Black & smoke gray were recommended with bright blue, but I ordered saddle. About a week after I put in my order I saw a new bright blue '76 in a parking lot with a smoke gray interior. I called my salesman & asked him if it was too late to make a change but it wasn't. There's a reason for recommendations... If I were you, I'd stick with saddle... |
I vote no on the red. Would look great in saddle, smoke gray, or black

Once read, you cannot unthink the "hot dog with mustard" remark. Black interior certainly. I would paint the calipers yellow and think about replacing those wheels with black instead of chrome. Maybe tint the windows a bit, go for a more sinister look. Here's some inspiration for you:

But black is still a contender against black. |

It’s already hard enough to see with those worthless side mirrors and barely better rear view mirror and having to look over my shoulder to switch lanes. Not sure about dropping the cragars. It’s an option, but I’d always LOVED the chrome cragars growing up. Kind of nostalgic for me. BUT…matte black rims on white letter tires looks bad-ass! Especially with a lowered stance. Time will tell. But for now, there’s too many other items on the list with a higher priority. (Unless I find a killer deal on wheel/tire combo.) 😎 |

Do you have that setup in your vette by chance? I’d love to see some pics. |

Years ago I had an Olds 442 that was the same hue of Yellow as your 74 Corvette. It had a parchment color interior that held up very well. I had an easy time selling it because of the color combo. At a car show back then there was a Lemon Yellow ‘76 Camaro with light Sand interior that was stunning and very well liked in that show. I’m looking for a picture right now.

many years ago I looked at a yellow vert before i bought this car, it had a green interior :U walked into the blokes shed, seen the colour combo and said no thanks, turned around and walked out. the photos he had online made it look almost very dark green / black. |
