In simple terms the larger the rocker ratio the further it pushes down on the valve forcing it down. By forcing the valve further you are gaining more lift; more air means more power.

Help any ? :confused:

what is a "larger" ratio? Which ratios are performance ratios?

They effectively raise the amount of lift that your cam puts out. The number is the ratio of the lengths of the rocker arm on both sides of the fulcrum. The frist number is the length of the side that pushes the valve, and the second is the length of the side being pushed by the lifter/rod.

for a SBC 1.5:1 is the stock ratio anything larger than that would be a performance ratio
