Lower Seat Track Repair/Replacement
 

Does anyone know of a vendor or individual that makes a reproduction of the lower half of the 64-66 seat tracks? The lower portions of my 65 seat tracks are rusted away, but the upper cylindrical portion will clean up just fine.

I saw some of these in the swap meet area of the Bloomington Gold show this year but failed to get their contact information because I mistakenly believed my tracks were usable as-is. This person had pieces that replaced the entire lower portion after cutting the tracks essentially in half top to bottom.

Has anyone seen these parts available anywhere or know of person who might have made some of these?

Thanks Eric, but that link takes me to the seat frames. I am speaking specifically about the tracks that the frames ride on. I need to repair/replace the lower half of the tracks.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the help. The complete seat track is certainly an option, but would be costly. What I am looking for is the lower half of that assembly - intended to be welded in place after cutting the lower half off. The approximate cut line is shown below.

The pieces i am looking for is the portion below the red line. I have seen the bracket on the lower right of the above picture, but I don't have enough good metal in that area to weld to.

I saw those at the Gold. I went back to the site to try to find the vendor, but the map is gone unless I just couldn't find it.

I believe he was in the area of spaces 17 to 21. Is that what you recall as well?

Right area, but I was thinking 5 & 6, Joe's Garage. But, I wasn't really looking for them, just thought they looked odd.

@Last56 , what did you end up doing about the repair?

I just finished rebuilding my passenger seat. It had minor rust on the legs, but I just pulled the driver seat and both feet are significantly rusted out. I need to replace the rear brackets, but doesn't look promising. Current plan it get it taken apart and maybe use angle iron to replace the back sections.

On my 65 lower runners, the rear inserted nose that pushes into the floor seat track mount was totally rusted away I was able to purchase the rear "Nose" only and riveted it to the lower frame. I feel it will be best to purchase the correct replacement complete runner.........We drive these Corvettes with little to no regard for the chance of an accident. With no shoulder safety belts, little to no safety inovations, I would not mess around with a repair on these seats. I would get the replacement runners OR find someone selling the seats, themselves.

I ultimately purchase beautiful replacement seats from a great Forum Member! My opinion is that would be you safest option!

Rad-man, mine were worse than yours. Welding angle to rebuild the area should work as long as the top part of the angle reaches to good, solid, unrusted metal and you can do a good full penetration weld. As pointed out, this is a safety thing and the repair should be as good or better as when the part was new.

I ended up purchasing a full set of seat tracks at a swap meet. i was quite lucky to find them as most look like they've been submerged in salt water for 50 years.

By the way, with replacement prices so outrageous, why not look for optional aftermarket seat bases that are available:

I did this: Used C5 motorized base. $300.00....So there are less expensive options.....Motorized or manual, your choice!
