Getting ready to repaint the center grill and wondered what the original black finish was (gloss, semi-gloss, satin or flat)?

Thanks

This is what is in the 5th addition of the NCRS Judging Guide. Any other color finish is not the original finish or color

Front Grilles (three units) Front grilles are three separate one-piece units. The two outer grilles are castings that were entirely chrome plated. After plating, these had dark gray textured paint applied from the rear. The front edges have the chrome plating exposed except for the bottom row of vertical bars which may be entirely painted. The center grille, behind the front license plate bracket, has a dark gray textured paint finish with no chrome plating.

The only back painted area is indicated below.

The outer edge of the parking light was painted black and blended into the dark gray textured paint finish just above the lower grille bar

Something to consider, unless you are looking for NCRS correct. I have a 68, I always thought the center grill looked funny so far back. It isn't even with the side grills. Install it a bit farther forwards so it matches the left and right grills.

I like that look, but my state requires the front plate to be installed so I may be stuck with using the original plate mount I still have. I'll play around with it to see what I can do to make it look batter.
