1968 427 Hood Emblems
Does anyone know if all 1968 427's came with hood emblems? Purchased a 68 427 Conv. with no 427 emblems on the hood. The person I bought the car from swears not all 1968 427's came with them. I had never heard this before and was wondering if anyone knew anything definitive about this. Thank you!

Moved to C3 General.

This will be moved to the C3 Forum. A lot of knowledgeable people there.
Looks like Vetteman Jack has moved this already. |
Thanks

That is a new one to me. Was the car ever repainted? Sounds like either the holes were glassed over or it is a later LT1 hood. Any evidence on the inside of the hood?
1.) It's an aftermarket BB hood 2.) It's from an LT1 3.) The emblems were removed and the holes were filled during a repaint If there was some 'decal/emblem delete' option I'm unaware of, I'm sure someone with knowledge of that will comment, but I doubt it. Since having a 427 is good for bragging rights and street cred for BB owners, especially back then, I doubt that would have ever been an option. You don't buy a Corvette to be a 'sleeper'. |

Indeed, that is what it sounds like. I've never heard of any BB hoods on the 68-69 big block cars not having that lovely 4-2-7 emblem on each side. If they were glassed in prior to a repaint, the OP should see evidence of that on the underside of the hood, unless it was undercoated. You are right on the money - the 70-72 LT1 hoods had 'LT1' stenciled on the hood (LT1 introduced in 70) - no emblem. So there are three scenarios I can think of:

OP check the underside and let us know but that sounds like he made that up. |
For 68, the only big blocks cars without 427 numerals where the L88s.

Thanks all. No evidence of emblems, must have had hood replaced with an LT-1 hood. I will put them on.

I hate to ask, but I am wondering why someone would replace the BB hood. Is this a 68 with the original engine?

Welcome.

I had a guy 30 years ago tell me my 68 was "early" because it did not have headrests. 🙄. It is a late May 68 build.

I have the same issue. My 68 L89 supposedly came with no 427 emblems. But no way for me to tell for sure.
