Rear Tire Losing Air on my Grand Sport, Cracked Wheel?

This morning one of my rear tires on my '19 Grand Sport was down to 13 PSI. Oh wonderful! Filled it back up and seems to be holding while driving. But stopped for breakfast for around an hour and it was low again. Have Bridgestone Run Flats. As far as I can tell I can't see anything in the tire like a screw or such. But I did hit a big deep manhole cover on a road yesterday, so hope I didn't suffer the dreaded Grand Sport bent or cracked wheel. So off to the dealer tomorrow. Good thing I got wheel and tire protection when I bought the car. So stay tuned.....

Damn :(

You might check the valve stem for a leak with soapy water. Either way, at least you are covered! Good Luck.

Yea checked that. Look at the tire again and still didn’t see anything unless it’s towards the inside of the tire.

The cracks that develop on the inside of the rim are pretty easy to see... at least mine were. Soapy water confirmed the air loss.

Well either way I have to take it to the dealer tomorrow for them to take the tire off to see if that’s the issue. Don’t make sense taking it to a tire place because if it is the wheel, they may have one in stock or just easier for them to order one. In any case the wheel and tire coverage I got should cover it.

FYI: Cracked wheels can

be fixed!

Good luck at the dealer. Hopefully it turns out to not be a cracked or bent wheel.

Take some soapy water and start spraying the wheel. The bubbles will show you the leak which is probably a cracked wheel.

Congratulations! The area where it used to be cracked is now strong and filled with new material. The rest of the wheel is still soft and brittle and prone to cracking though.

I personally wouldn't have repaired it. I'd much rather new wheels.

Gixxerman 01-22-2023 04:44 PM

Let us know how it went

You can also take your car to a shop like Discount Tire (America's Tire in California) and they will remove the wheel and test for leaks. The last time I had a tire pressure problem I asked them to specifically look for a cracked rim which they unfortunately found was the problem and then remounted the wheel. No cost. Being the second cracked rim I had I then replaced all the wheels with non-GM.

If its bleeding air that fast, its probably very bent and cracked, or the tire has sucked up a nail

Update, heard back from the dealership. Looks like I have joined the Cracked Grand Sport Wheel Club! They just ordered a new one. Definitely thankful I got the Tire and Wheel coverage when I bought the car.

joemessman 01-23-2023 03:25 PM

Glad to hear that! I mean the part about getting it replaced via the coverage. Keep doing that with each wheel as it breaks and get some real wheels when the coverage expires. A little inconvenient, but since you paid for the coverage take advantage of it. Have a good one.

Good luck with that.

I'm still waiting for the third wheel from GM.

From September.
