I suppose I would be doing the same, just really wanted know all is well.

Sorry gang, all is well! I appreciate you checking in, though.

I found out in February I will finally be retiring this September! I say “found out” and “finally” as I’ve already retired twice (third time is a charm) and expected to retire this time in September 2021 when we sold our home health business to Humana (a great company by the way and worth exploring if/when you are looking for a Medicare Advantage plan). I agreed to stay and help integrate our business and transform some processes. We completed the integration at the end of last year and have been fine tuning various ways of working. With some pending organization changes, my work here is done and I will spend my remaining time helping set up our new leaders for success. A win/win all around! This has also made me extremely busy and I haven’t been on the forum as much as normal and when I am, I’m trying to learn more about my newly acquired ZR1. More on that in a minute. So, I shift into more of a consulting role next week and then head up to NY at the end of April for the Summer where I will be for my official retirement date.

I bought the 2019 ZR1 from a friend in Atlanta. You may recall I lived in Atlanta for two years as we were building the company and preparing to transition it to Humana. It was Vengeance Racing’s test mule as they perfected different modifications and tunes for their ZR1 and Z06 offerings. In 2022 when that work was complete, they completely rebuilt the car. New blueprinted LT5 short block, their ported and massaged heads, VR cam with improved fueling, Kooks ported blower, headers, exhaust, etc. Also, new upgraded torque tube, new tranny, new diff, axles, and brakes. Basically a completely rebuilt car with 5 tuning levels ranging from 875-1100hp. It is also loaded with every option and covered from nose to rear spoiler in Xpel. My retirement gift to myself!

Here are two videos of the car at the drag strip and a lap at Road Atlanta which includes a list of most of the upgrades:

She is a complete bad ass and regularly scares me to death! I did sell my ‘69 coupe and am considering selling the L72 simply so I can refocus on Fat Boy. They are both in NY and the ZR1 will stay in Texas for the summer. Here are some other pics:

Beautiful car Mark, glad to hear all is well, things being what they are today you don’t hear from someone and you immediately think something is amiss, congratulations on your retirement and that beautiful ZR-1.

Six7390gt 03-27-2023 04:44 PM

Oh my, and that's a street legal car. Nice score - but I'd have a hell of a time staying out of trouble in that.

elwood13 03-27-2023 04:54 PM

Congrats Mark.

Factoid 03-27-2023 04:56 PM

Me too! Some of the roads here in Texas have an 85mph speed limit meaning people do 95mph. This thing is just getting warmed up!

@Gavin65 , when did you move to CT? We need to get together this summer if you are still close.

petdoc 03-27-2023 05:14 PM

Gosh Mark... since you'll be in NY for the summer and your ZR-1 will be left here unattended in SA, it seems only proper I should offer to babysit. It's a grueling 20 minute drive for me, but hey, what are friends for, right??? Plus I'm already kinda partial to C-7's (and 2's and 3's) anyway...

Congratulations Mark. Glad work is wrapping up and leaving you able to play as you choose!

Congratulations on your 3rd retirement!
That car is a beast.
Sorry to see you sell your L72 but I know how it goes we only have so much room and so much time to drive them all.

Lee, I can not tell you how much it means to me that you would make that sacrifice! Such a great friend!

I’ll be back in October, a free man. We can take it out and flog it then. One thing I have discovered is that the 3LZ interior leather dash has a tendency to bubble and shrink. No one has really pinned down the root cause. Some say excess heat, others EPA mandated inferior glue, etc. My garage in Texas gets north of 110 degrees in the summer due to the west facing glass garage doors. I’m in the process of installing a Mr. cool split system in the garage. I went with the 24,000 btu unit given my garage is 800sf with 16 foot ceilings, so that should do it. My wife’s Cayenne also has a leather dash, so hopefully good for both and longer battery life. We shall see!

Nice C7 Mark ... thought you might've been prepping the 69 for sale ... I can tell - GV

Nice to know you'll be back in NY soon ... mail pending

Your new ZR1 is a BEAST.....

As much as I enjoy the nostalgia of taking our car for drives, and remembering riding with my Mom and Dad, the thought of some newer technology, and with what tuners are doing with these cars these days is certainly appealing, when it comes to driving excitement......

When I first saw your photos, I thought maybe it was a car I had been following previously..... but it is yet another extremely quick, orange ZR1..... ;)

A hearty "Congrats!" on your retirement, Mark! Well-earned, and I'm sure you're looking forward to the freedom.

Live well,

SJW

C7 with a 1000 HP is a lot to handle.

We picked this up with about 33 miles on the odometer. We put about 60 additional miles on it taking it to the shop. I may be the only person that ever drove a Yenko down a grass/red clay/gravel driveway. At around 45 degrees even the paved roads were like ice.

The car has only been displayed at one C and C in maybe 3 years. Not my choice.
Mark your car is beautiful!!!

Westlotorn 03-30-2023 12:41 AM

I think Mark Needs to meet you at the track and see which car runs better! Two beautiful Corvettes.
