Holley LED Headlights

I had wanted better lights for quite a while in my '66, but just hadn't found the right one and didn't want to spend the money for the Holley's. This week I went ahead and bit the bullet and ordered the Holley LED's since my eyes aren't getting any better for the night drives and we have way too many deer in our rural farm area!

The install was very straightforward but I wanted to include a few photos and details since there's been a few discussions on these in the past. A splitter from Holley (for running all 4 lights on hi and low) is no longer available to order (I heard early on there was one to purchase) so you either need to source one or make your own. I decided to use the included harnesses and put them together as a splitter - that alone was the only thing in the install that took any time at all. The product is super quality and I would definitely do it again - the fit was spot on with no alterations. I went with the 5700k modern white since it had an overall brighter light than the 3000k bulb option. I was ready to take the car out tonight to give them a test, but as I was heading down our long driveway, I quickly saw the adjustment was still way too high and didn't want to blind any oncoming traffic, so I'll fine-tune them tomorrow.

Looks very nice, great job! This is my next upgrade, was it easy to make supplied harness a splitter? I thought I’ve read in the past there’s a Ford website that still sells the Holley splitter harness?

Thanks. I think the lighting will be great. All I did was to cut the male ends from one of the new plug harnesses, strip some wiring back from the other harness (near the male end without cutting the wires) and then solder them together. The 3 male fittings then slip into the black housing in whichever order you need for you car’s factory female plug wiring.

I saw where several splitters were available on eBay and I think many of them would work well for this too. I think I remember the reference to a Mustang splitter in a previous discussion about these too, but I’m not sure where it came from.

Where did you buy them?

From Summitt Racing. Super fast shipping and got them in about 3 days after placing the order.

Very nice. I bought the splitter from a mustang site in early 2022. I can’t remember the site offhand and I’m sure they sold out by now. Here is a pic of the splitter. I’ll see if it can find the instructions later.

Found the instructions if it helps in making your own. The splitter part number is H810.

Is this the correct splitter?

The pic looks like mine.

Looks like there are some on eBay. The seller may be the mustang store I bought mine from. Shows to have 3 in stock.

I don’t think so. See how that one has 2 male plugs? The one you’ll need, will just have one male plug, and then it’ll split to 2 female plugs. Here’s one on eBay that looks like it would be right, but it m not 100% sure. It’s cheap enough to take a gamble on though.

Looking at other splitters, some seem to plug into both female plugs on the factory harness. The one I made only goes into the 3 prong factory plug, but either style would work as long as both of the female plugs that the new lights will plug into, have all 3 wires required for the new lights to operate properly - hi/low/ground

And just for my info, the splitter is only needed if you want all four headlights to operate on low and high, correct? If you are fine with "stock" behavior, as in just the outer lights for low, and all four for high, you don't need a splitter?

Thats right. The bulbs just plug right in and you’re done. I’d order the bulb that’s only a bright light (for the inboard) if going for the stock setup - there’s 2 different 5.75” bulbs available.

That said, the harness is easy to put together and I’m sure the available aftermarket ones work well too. Having all 4 available on low is pretty amazing and definitely the way I’d go again. I’m still tinkering with getting them set properly, but the available light is as good as our modern cars, if not better. It’s pretty amazing.

Just finished the install of two outboard Holley lights in a 65, not going with LED brights. Easy install, plug right in, plenty of room for the extra wire. I’ll adjust them later tonight and report back if it ever stops raining and warms up here.
Mike

PS: I bought some LED C2 tail lights from a guy here a few years ago and can’t find the info. Anyone know who was selling those things? PM me please.

I just ordered a set of LED tail light bulbs from Holley when I ordered the lights. They're nice and bright and look good. I had previously ordered a set from Amazon that flash 4 times then go solid, and I've been on the fence about what I think about them. They really catch your eye and get your attention (that's what it's all about right?) but I'm thinking they're a bit cheesy??!!

I adjusted my headlights better tonight, but haven't been on the road yet to see if I'm going to get brighted by oncoming traffic. I finally parked my car next to one of our modern vehicles, and adjusted them to match. That seems to work well, but the Holley's get a bit of "light splash" above the cutoff line, so it'll be interesting to see if that's enough to seem too bright to oncoming traffic and make me need to lower a bit more.

elwood13 05-02-2023 11:28 PM

Looking forward to see what you find out. I plan on lowering and aiming the outside lights out a little with the inners at normal height. I hope to light up more road edge without blinding anyone if it works.

You’ll definitely improve your side light. I can already tell that’s going to be 10x better than stock and I haven’t even touched the horizontal adjustment yet. I have a new Cadillac Blackwing and I think these lights are going to be every bit as good as the great lights in that car. 👍🏽

Vettrocious 05-03-2023 08:24 AM

My wife’s Mercedes E class has the best LED lights I’ve ever seen. It’ll be interesting to drive the new Holley’s in the dark (hopefully tonight) and compare them.

Vettrocious 05-03-2023 09:56 PM

Headlights work great, but I’ve run out of vertical adjustment on both, and they’re not focused high enough. Any ideas?
