Can Vortec heads be machined for non center bolt valve covers?

Has anyone done this or know if it can be done. Also, if any one knows of a place the will sell vortec heads already machined. Thanks, Jesse D.

Not sure if there is enough meat there but you could get some extra material welded in there. Trick Flow makes an adaptor but it is about $100. Check Summit's website.

jessed,

May be less expensive to purchase a set of GM 24502540 Adapters used to bolt flange mount valve covers (1958-87) to 87 and us style heads.

They are in the GM Performance Parts Catalog.

I think Scoggin-Dickey in Lubbock Tx, sells the heads already set up and machined for high lift springs, I agree that the adapters would probably be better in the long run. But, if not I know of one guy who had small tabs welded on the heads, then had then drilled and tapped. It cost him like $75.00 to do them.

Mines have been machined for conventionnal valve cover. It costed 75$ canadian. You'll have to find a shop near you that can do it. My machinist did holes an welded inserts in them. It don't even show from the exterior. I wanted that to keep the original look.
