Very Strange issue with Outside Temp reading on Display, Please Read

Hi,
I have noticed since it's dropped well below freezing in RI lately (6-20 degrees out) my car is actice weird when i start it. My climate control reads the outside temp (like everone elses does too that has electronic climate control). Anyway when it starts it reads something rediculous like 160 degrees out!! It rapidly counts down until it gets to the correct temperature (today that was 6 degrees which was displayed correctly). The whole ordeal lasts all of 40 seconds but i don't recall seeing this as normal operating conditions in the past. It should be noted that all of the controls work correctly. Heat, A/C, Defrost. And the air comes out where i want it to. Why would it be doing this. Perhaps it's normal and i never noticed it (i doubt it). Maybe it does it if it sense an extremely low temp (who knows) or maybe someting is wrong. Any ideas at all??

has anyone even at least seen this before. It only does it first thing in the morning after sitiing in the cold for a few days. Today i started it probably 10 times throughout the day and it read the correct temp immediately those times. Someone must have some idea?????????????? :banghead:

Seems to happen on mine too, but it doesn't bother me. When I start it, it reads around 60 though, not 160.

I have had something similar happen twice but since it hasn't re-ocurred for a while I didn't look into it.

My display started to read much colder outside than it was (like 20 degrees celsius) and the AC temps started to change. Turned it off and it was normal after restarting it.

Sorry I can't help with WHAT caused the problem. :)

I never noticed that on my 96. The only problem I have it that it reads 2 or 3 degrees higher than actual temperature (as indicated by the electronic billboards that I drive past on the freeway).

Do you pull the codes from the controller when that happens?
mine displayed 62 a little while ago at 10:00pm. Damn display.
Oh, wait, that's because it is 62 degrees here at night. The santa ana winds kick in and it warms up at night. 70 during the day.
(sorry couldn't resist  )
