Carbo Tech 1521's Pads Installed

Last weekend I installed the pads on my C7 with 45k miles on it. For those who may be intimidated, don't be! From start to finish it took 3 hours, that included cleaning the inside of the rims, lug nuts, calipers and replacing the pads. Super easy! Stopping power seems the same. Rotors still have a few rust rings on them where the new pads have not completely formed to the rotors. Although the rotors looked perfect, at 45k mi, they have some low/high spots evidently.

Good pads. Rotors will love you as well as your wheels.

Nice to do all the cleanup while you have it apart!

And they last twice as long as the stockers. I've put them on my last 4 Corvettes.

Good choice for pad replacements.

Are these good for base cars?

excellent. These are pretty much top of the line for ceramic low dust pads.

You will see two main camps of folks on this one. The PowerStop and the CarboTech crowds. I have used both and have my thoughts:

CarboTech 1521 - 90% dust reduction, excellent pedal feel (slightly better than PS IMO), very expensive compared to PS, MADE in the USA

PowerStop Z26 - 100% dust reduction (seriously, there is none), good pedal feel (not quite as good as CT), far less expensive, MADE in CHINA

I am currently running CarboTechs and like them (just as I have the PowerStops in the past). If CarboTech would simply reduce the price there would be nothing to discuss. You cannot go wrong with either, just decide what is most important to you.

There are several others that are also great (Hawk, Duralast Gold, etc). Those are good too, but the main two that get debated here are PS and CT.

Hope that helps a little.

I know about specs & brands...I was just wondering if fitment/performance was ok for the base brakes since rotors are plain & the front calipers are smaller.

The pads are the same between base and Z51. Technically the caliper sizes are the same, but the rotors are bigger on the Z51.

Either way, same pads and you won’t be able to tell the difference between them for street use.

I have owned a base Stingray, a Z51, and a Grand Sport and have used 1521’s on all with awesome results.

I put the Carbotech 1521s on my Z-51 from day 1. Super brakes.

Not sure if this is the answer to your question, but...
1521 is the friction material, there are application specific part numbers for different each vehicle.

Thanks. Noted. When I need them I'll go with these.
