C4 Flowmaster Performance Mufflers- WOW!!!!
 

Just had a pair of these mufflers installed on my 85 vette. God they sound great!! Installlation was a breeze (no problems which a rarity for doing anything with a vette). They really add a great deep sound to it. And most importantly, it didn't appear to do much to the interior noise when driving. Of course you can hear a louder sound when accelerating (but isn't that what you want anyway?) But when cruising it seems to be fine.

Very pleased with them.

Glad you like 'em. You didn't change the y pipe, correct? That is what may give the resonance associated with the flowmasters. I'm gonna be doing the exhaust thing in a couple months, and I'm thinking of the flowmaster catback, which includes the y pipe. I'm going to have the pros install it - I also think that improper installation could lead to resonance. Of course, I'm trusting the "pros" will install it correctly! :seeya

Which FlowMaster did you use? 2-chamber or 3-chamber? I heard an 88 at an autocross in Vegas 2 weeks ago with flowmasters that sounded fantastic. It was sort of raspy on acceleration and very unique. He obught it with them on didn't know which model.

NavyVet, I saw your LT4 at Exotic Muscle last year. Who made your rollbar? Someone locally I hope. Cost?

EM did it. I got estimates from everyone reputable around and they were the best. They powder coat instead of paint, made the removable front (5th point) diagonal brace, and did a great job with fit and finish. You'd have to talk to Merle. I don't know your car, so labor might be different. Also a big variation if you need the front diagonal and are trying to be legal under multiple sanctioning boides as I was. I probably bought more than most would have. Paul

My 86 coupe has Borla mufflers on it (where there when I bought it), and they sound pretty good....but, I have heard a few vettes with the Flowmasters, and I will probably change to them in the near furute. My 98 Continental has Flowmaster 40's on it, and I love them!!!! :cheers:

what size flowmaster 40s did you get? i.e. what were the inlet and outlet sizes? what size is the stock pipe on an LT1 exhaust system? anyone know? would 2.5" inlet/2.5" outlet work? and would i need offset inlets and/or outlets or what? :confused:

Installed them on my '84 2 years ago....fantastic.....added ZR1 tips and painted them black...
What a sound!!!!!!!! What performance....
I'm happy...like you.....
Next a Random Tech Cat.....and all smog legal....

I love my 40 series flows...............yeah theres some resonance, but man do they sound mean outside the car :reddevil

No I didn't replace the Y pipe. The seem to sound fine- no major resonance inside that I can
detect. They were installed by the local Chevy dealer and they seemed to do a good job. They are the "premium performance" mufflers #9424501 L/R

has anyone ever done something like i did , im poor so i could only afford one 40's 3" center /center flowmaster .so i took out the cat and replaced it with the muffler and cut out my stock mufflers and ran pipes to the back with zr-1 tips , i had to bang up a corner (not bad)on the muffler to ask it to fit but it sounds like a raped ape when you in it

yep! got the headers in the garage. they will be going on when i do the 4+3 swap. cat was melted and hollowed out long ago:reddevil

I don't believe the 50 series will fit without a lot of work. They are much longer than the 40's.
