Weight of convertible vs coupe

a friend of mine has a 99 c5 vert and he swear the verts in the vettes are lighter than the coupes...if this is true then I guess vettes are the only cars where the convertible is lighter than the hard top...What is the weight difference???

I looked on gm's website and could not find weight...

Re: Weight of convertible vs coupe (85superram)

vert is 3210lb and coupe is 3214 lbs.
Yep, the only car that vert is lighter than a coupe :cheers:

The weights posted don't look right to me. . . :nonod:

I found 3 sources all showing the same stats:

Coupe = 3246
Vert = 3248
Z06 = 3118

Put ZO6 Ti exhaust on my vert, if I wasn't such a fat a** I could say my car was lighter. Well, if I let my 100lb wife drive :D

Re: Weight of convertible vs coupe (dragerty)

The weight difference is due mainly to the weight of the Coupe's rear glass.

But remember the Coupe still has the lowest Cd (aerodynamic drag) and the highest top speed (yes, even Z06's 405 HP doesn't make up for Cd of Coupe). Much of that Cd is due to the rear glass shape.

What weight difference??? According to the Chevrolet source that I quoted, the Vert is 2lbs. heavier than the coupe. :yesnod:

The weights will vary as much as 50 pounds through different model years. A 99 roadster will weigh less than say a 2003 coupe.

:nonod: I don't think so. Here is another source:

1999 Corvette Statistics
Curb Weight (lbs) 3,246 (coupe)
3,248 (convert.)
3,173 (hardtop)

Re: Weight of convertible vs coupe (hogurt)

Plus it depends on if the cars are built the same, ie. automatic/manual, active handling, HUD, etc.

Re: Weight of convertible vs coupe (C5-VERT)

Uh, ok. I just posted statistics from Chevy. I assume that they have done the weight comparison on equally equipped cars? I guess the point is. . .the person that started this conversation asked about the '99 vert vs. coupe. . .the answer is = the coupe is 2 lbs lighter.

For all intensive purposes, these cars are equal, but from the factory the coupe is 2 lbs. lighter.

I'll cut back on the McDonald's Happy Meals to be able to soak up sunlight in my 'vert! :D
