Just VENTING
My American cousins are so lucky when it comes to buying parts, i will give you an example . Ordered the two 454 embles for my hood ,23 dollars and change US. When the UPS guy showed up with the parts i had to pay another 86.23 Canadian.Shipping, duty, handling fee, GST tax on the parts, GST tax on the UPS service, total when everything was said and done 123 dollars canadian. Tried to order front splase sheilds for my 82 Trans AM from the dealer ( no longer avaliable ) but the list price is about 22 dollars ,so i checked on the net and of course i can get them from the states for 9.73 US but i am afraid to order them because of what i went through before , i also found some in Canada but they want 40 dollars each. I guess what i'm getting at is that in the USA there is competition and if you don't like one dealers prices you can shop around ,but here in Canada its gouge and screw.By the way that is what our GST tax is short for (gouge&screw tax). Thanks for letting me vent ,i feel better now.

Believe me, I feel the same way every time I have to buy parts for our Toyota and I live in the states. I had to pay $150 for an EGR for our Camry... :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Oh well at least we have all the maple syrup we want  |
Re: Just VENTING (74BBcherryred)
Get a friend in Buffalo and have them shipped to him. Then take the Vette for a cruise over the bridge!

Re: Just VENTING (lbell101)
You could use that for gas money, and drive to a shipping address in the states. :yesnod:
I live in MI, and if it weren't so far for ya, I'd volunteer my address for ya, then you could come here. Good luck. That GST sounds like it really sucks. |
Re: Just VENTING (74BBcherryred)
Unbelievable! What is the point of that? To discourage ordering parts from the US? I am surprised. I have heard of this kind of thing in Europe, but wasn't aware it was in Canada too. Its so close yet you pay so much more, I agree, try to find a PO box across the border if you are close. Wow...

Re: Just VENTING (74BBcherryred)
The best way to avoid getting OVER screwed on parts is to AVOID UPS! Insist on USPS for cross border shopping, or another courirer that doesn't charge you for "brokering"... Just a couple of things I learned this winter odring interior parts...

Re: Just VENTING (NorthVette)
I think i will make a trip to niagara falls ny and open a po box ,it would take me all of 5 minutes to drive over as long as the security at the bridge isn't in orange alert.

Re: Just VENTING (74BBcherryred)
Unbelievable. That is totally unfair. That is almost 400% shipping. I believe I would drive across the bridge too.

Re: Just VENTING (74BBcherryred)
And I thought I had it bad having items shipped to me in Alaska. Still pay alot for freight but not nearly as bad as my Canadian brothers.

Re: Just VENTING (74BBcherryred)
Drive the bridge, or make trips a couple of times a year for parts to places like Hershey PA.
Screw those taxes! Canada is a cool place. Lots of nice folks, but I hate the exchange rate. :mad |
