Lt1 back firing
 

Thursday I pulled the 94 out from the lower garage after a long winter nap.Saturday I cleaned and washed it for my daughter's wedding and all it would do was mis and backfire.The wife took it for a 15 minute spin and it did run a little better.Reving a little from idle would make it mis or sometimes backfire.By the time for the wedding rolled around I drove the car to the church with no trouble.So what happened did the vette know a ford owner (groom)was going to drive it ? :chevy

Bad gas maybe?

All the TPI people are immediately going to tell you it's a bad opti. Don't believe it.

Complete guess but here goes...

The computer learns fuel settings and such as you drive. Could it have forgotten these over the winter if the battery was disconnnected?

Or maybe an injector was gummed up with old fuel or something...

Or maybe it just didn't want to wake up from the long nap (like me in the AM).

I'm having a similar minor problem with my 93 (44k miles). I would take it to someone to see what codes the computer is throwing out. Mine throws an injector code when it acts up. My mechanic thinks it's a sticky injector, and it does come and go (mostly go). I'm just going to install a new set of injectors and get the old ones rebuilt for future swapping. Also- I use STA-BIL fuel stabilizer with fresh Sunoco hi-test before I put her away every year. I'm beginning to wonder if the additive is the culprit (no slam intended on STA-BIL).

Thats the first thing I thought off was a bad opti.Battery was not disconnected had a charger on it. :D Almost afraid to start it up again.

Ijohn51,I just fill my tank up without any stabilizer.What about the plugs?I only have 22,000 miles but it is nine years old. :chevy

I would loose those plugs... they are the AC Delco Platnums, and, IMHO, SUCK.

The platnum button on the ground strap will fall off... and cause the gap to grow from .050 to .065!!!!

Get NGK's.

Also, consider a complete tune up... new plugs and wires. And drive it a bit. I think you may need to clean it out some. the fuel that has sat in the fuel rails has more than likely laquered up.

I don't think is the opti, but it is a chance... the opti will accumulate moisture, and when it does, all bets are off. The engine does not get driven enough to burn it off from the inside of the cap, and you get carbon tracing.

Just fired up the 94 this morning and it felt real good.What are ngk plugs and where do you get them?What about wires,brand and where to buy?
