New best 1/4 mile ET and MPH

Saturday was a full day of drag racing in New Jersey. Vette magazine all corvette show in the morning and ECSC corvette challenge in the afternoon. I guess I got all fired up for the first round of eliminations in the morning and broke out bigtime! But the timeslip is practically a freak compared to my others - 13.694 @ 105.05 mph  My previous fastest mph was 103.9.

I guess i need to mention... but I am sure it happened too late to make a difference.... right before the finish line I blew my exhaust pipe right off the muffler!! i mean, the passengerside rear exhaust seperated from the inlet side of the muffler...(Flowmaster 50) Must be a lot of back pressure. But I can't believe the extra horsepower from an uncapped exhaust (one side only) made that big a difference.... it happened really late (or I would have shut down, it sounded pretty strange and I didnt know what happened)

I got into the 13s a couple more times, 13.937 @ 103.59, but a few 14.2s and 14.5s also. I am very inconsistent and suck at bracket racing. Track got really slick as the day went on. :) MJ

As I recall you have a fairly stock L36. Good times indeed.

Great times Mark. Good to see you again. 13.6 is awesome for that motor. Perhaps I will see you next time.

I had a moment there... Is this what it feels like to "blow an engine"?? but I was past the finish line quickly and I could tell the engine was running ok but just LOUD..... so I was hoping and praying it was just an exhaust issue - I certainly had reason to suspect the flex hose I used to Bubba-ize my headers onto my rear exhaust. But I was very happy when I looked underneath and saw the rear pipe separated from the muffler! :) The clamp was still intact.... just let it cool off, took out my BFH... :smash: and it is now better than ever! MJ

Geez Mark, you're making all us stock L36 owners look bad! 13.6 with one muffler! Maybe if you add a set of exhaust cut-outs you'll be in the 12s?

What did you use to fix the exhaust, another soup can? :lolg:
