It's alive and running after 15 yrs.

My project car (1970 conv) is running again. After 14 years in a storage building, and 1 year at my house. It's running again. After, a new gas tank, new radiator, new belts and hoses, new battery, new brakes, new plugs, wires, cap, rotor, and points, and old carb. Marvel mystery oil in cyclinder before new plugs.

At first, I couldn't get any spark (fire), then had no fuel. Then, after putting all the parts in two or three times, I got spark. Then, no fuel. So I was going to rebuild the carb.

Well, my neighbor and my brother-in-law suggest to put a capful of gas in carb and hear her spurter. Well after 5 or 6 caps of gas, she fired up. Smoked at first 15 minutes, then runs fine.

Another vette back on the road. Now, to replace the dry rotted tires (15 yrs old) and take her around the block.

I'll run her a little, then decide if the carb needs rebuilding......

Check out Juliet's webpage, she is a long time forum member and a specialist on the 70 model especially the convertible, she also operates the 70 registry. Please register your car with the Registry, Juliet gets a real kick out of finding another running 70.

PS I bet you'll need a carb rebuild.

Congratulations!!! Feels good doesn't it. I'm always suprised at how mine runs after sitting for many months at a time. I have lots of problems with fit and finish, as well as, wear and tear but the engine never lets me down! (knock on wood!). Charge the battery, check the fluids and it turns over in just 2 or 3 seconds of cranking. After the first start, it always fires right up...if the battery is still good (that's been known to be a problem).

My small block might not be powerful but it sure is reliable.

Do all of the barns and storage buildings in Tennessee house vettes just waiting to get back on the road again? I bet bamavettes can answer that. Nice to hear a story like yours 78whtshark. Some pix would be nice as was mentioned above.

i still know people who fancy themselves "car people" who have highly valuable cars that literally just sit in their garages for years.

Why dont you drive them? i ask them.

They all say "well if you drive it you'll just wear it out. I'm just letting it sit so it stays in good condition".

Yeah buddy, keep telling yourself that. Then they give me a call all surprised when they try to start the car after 9 years of sitting and it dosnt start.

Probably needs a carb rebuild, mine did after 17 in the garage (had to drag it out due to rusted-stuck Em. brake). Looks like an absolutely beautiful car, I love dark blue. Drive it fast, drive it often
