Non A/C heater core

For the early C3's (mine's a '70 non-a/c car) does the heater core come out from the engine compartment or the interior? Looks like the blower motor case is pretty easy to pop off from the engine compartment side, but can I get the heater core out by doing that or do I have to take the interior case apart?

Also, I know there are a lot of problems with aftermarket parts fitting correctly. What experience have you folks had with replacement heater cores, and where would you recommend buying one from?

Sorry, but you have to pull it from the inside. Repros are generally good.

What kind of job is it? My entire dash and center gauge cluster is already out, so I figured as long as I'm this deep I may as well change the 33 year old heater core.

If you don't have AC, you can very easily pull the outside heater box and fan motor and replace the core. It does not require going through the dash. Only AC cars have to go through the dash.
Check Corvette Faq http://www.corvettefaq.com I think there are some photos of the job being done.
It is a fairly quick easy job, but one warning, have the new core pressure tested at a radiator shop before you install it. The chances are it is good, but I've seen several that leaked right out of the box.

Good Luck!
