C5 differential o ring leak
I just got my 03 anniversary w/3675 miles back from the shop today after having a differential o ring leak repaired. They replaced the o ring and differential seal which I'm hoping solved the leak. I'm hearing that this is a common problem w/c5's. I'm hoping this won't be something I have to do every 3500 miles. Is there anything I can do to prevent this??? Or from everyones experience, is this fairly common and something I will have to deal with?? Comments...... Advice??

Re: C5 differential o ring leak (vettequeen)
It's pretty common from what I've read/heard on the forum. In fact, my 03ZO6 is going in tomorrow @ noon for the same thing, & I have 3000 mi!! :mad :(

Re: C5 differential o ring leak (vettequeen)
My Y2K with 7500 miles on it had a leak from the driver's side output shaft seal on the diff. Even though it was out of warranty on time, they performed a 'Goodwill Warranty Repair' and I was very appreciative of that. However, after 600 miles, it appears to be leaking again! I don't know what they will do this time. The bill to someone was $268. :nonod:

Re: C5 differential o ring leak (Y2KMRC5)
My 02 go's in Thursday for rear end leak, I'm kind of nervous. I asked if there was a Vette specialist there they said no but they have 2 guys that they only let work on Vettes. I think I'll stay and watch. :nonod:

GM recently came out with a service bulletin review & advises there is a new output shaft seal P/N 88996703 & new diff. side cover o- ring P/N89047953 this info may or maynot be known your Techs so I would advise you to question them about this.

Re: C5 differential o ring leak (C-5 TECH)
I'm glad they finally got around to releasing the new seals. At Carlisle in the summer of 2001, I was told by the power train manager that new rear axel seals would be out for the C5 in July 2002. Hey, they're only 14 months late, but better late than never. :D
Mine has been repaired 3 times for this problem. At least the next time (and there will be a next time), I'll get the newly designed seals. :hurray: :hurray: :hurray: Jim |
