What cubic inch is a 454 bored .030 .040 and .060?
What cubic inch is a 454 bored .030 .040 and .060? Is there a such thing as stroking a 454? When looking for a 454 block, is there a better year than others to look for, one that may have thicker walls? I want to build a big block for a project C3.

.030 over = 460
.040 over = 462 .060 over = 467 Yes you can stroke a 454 to over 500ci. If you want a big bore, long stroke combo you would be better off with an aftermarket block. With aftermarket blocks you can get over 700ci. [Modified by Pete79L82, 9:15 PM 10/6/2003] |

A 454 that is .060 over comes out to 466.9, 467ci. Most call it a 468 but I like the exact number, 467 just sounds cool, like its smaller cousin. Not sure about .030 over and .040 over, I think its like 460ci and 462?

The deminsions of the bore and stroke of a stock 454 = 4.250" x 4.00"
If you bore it .030 you increase the bore to 4.280, now with a little 9th grade geometry, Ð Time the Radius squared times the height, times the number of cylinders. Assuming a bore of 4.280 the radius would be 2.140 (, square that and multiply it by Ð (3.1416 is close enough for us) 4.5796 * 3.1416 * 4.00 = 57.59 cubic inches time 8= 460.39 cubic inches. Now for .040 over = 462.55 cubic inches Finally for .060 over = 466.87 cubic inches Now for the different GM BB engines, The biggest standard bore of a Mark IV and Mark V blocks is the 4.250, the Mark VI and Mark VII are completely different animals, I have no idea how close they are to "normal" big blocks. |

Most desireable are the 4 bolt main blocks, but nothing wrong with the 2 bolt. BTW, 427, 454 blocks are identical, only difference is the stroke, and the 454 blocks are notched to accept the longer stroke. Rod lengthe between both are identical...they use the same rods.
