Putting my C4 on a diet

So i'm looking to remove as much weight as possible from my 93 without removing ant creature comforts/street equipment. I have already stripped all the EGR/emmisions stuff. no spare/carrier. replaced ex manifods and cats with headers. Any other ideas for loosing weight off the car

You could go to lighter wheels, carbon fiber hood, lighter padding under the carpet, replace mufflers with muffler elims.

Also, cruze with 1/3-2/3 tank of fuel.

my "track wheels" will be weld SuperStocks on the front and Aluma Star 2.0's on the back. Exhaust will be dual in/out muffler in place of resonator and pipes to the back

There was a thread last week on this. but i think they guy wasn't concerned about commfort. you might want to do a search and see. most of what i remember they you could do is: that is depending on $$
racing seats
lighter wheels
carbon fiber hood or the light weight fiberglass one
lexian rear hatch, they make a windshield but not sure if that's legal on the street.
exhaust piping: aluminum
remove the carpet
minimize the stereo components
lighter battery
if you have cast iron heads go with aluminum
oh yeah the most popular was making the driver lighter
there might have been more but i had to walk away from that thread before i got any ideas :D
goodluck

Yeah...I'm pretty much doing the same thing... I've replaced my mild steel cage with chromoly, I've done away with the sound deadener, the A/C, the heater/evaporator box, the heater core, and a few other things. I'm building some brackets to hook up the aluminum Kirkey seats to the factory electric tracks and am getting rid of the leather seats (you wouldn't BELIEVE what those damn things weigh)... In other words- piss on comfort! I'm going as light as I possibly can in order to get 8's out of this pig!! Oh, I'm also fabricating an aluminum fuel cell...

I wish cromealoy rollcages would be more popular. RD seems to be coming out with a C4 vert one, but unfortunately I believe it will be mild steel.

Heavier = slower

If you have 13" brakes, then swap them out for the smaller 12" size or just get the rotors that use aluminum hats. Might save a couple of rotating pounds.

Don't think lighter car perse, but just increase HP a lot.

Remove airbag steering wheel for something lighter as well.

450RWHP on motor, 600 on gas should do, lol

Remove the AC and the HEATER??? NOT ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wooooo.... Noooooooooo

Couldn't you also remove the front fenders.
And the hood.
Remove the targa top,
Remove the gas filler lid, that'll save you about 2 lbs.
Remove the Pwr.Brake booster.
Remove the power steering pump.

If you are serious about this as you say you are... remove the water pump...
That PIG will run 1/4 mile just fine with no water circulation... come on now you ARE serious aren't you?

Remove the radiator...don't need that for a 1/4 mile run. That'll save about 6 or seven pounds on the radiator and about 10 to 12 on the shrouding.

The headlights and retraction mechanism can go in the pile with the hood.

Remove the instrument cluster.... MOST tracks have timing equipment so you don't need a speedometer or anything.
Throw a light weight tach in there.

Heck, you don't even NEED the doors on there. Throw the doors in the scrap heap.

TAKE the WINDSHIELD out. You know how HEAVY those things are.
You are going to be wearing a helmet with a face shield aren't you?
Don't need that stinking windshield then.

Remove the rear glass.... that weighs a TON!!!

Fill the tires with helium. That'll reduce rolling resistance a few pounds.
I would have said the spare tire also but I know you've long ago scrapped THAT.

That's about all the good advice I can give you for now.

With all the above "weight saving" measures you'll likely see a couple of tenths come off your ET.

Man, I like people like you. You are a PURIST, buddy. You'll do ANYTHING to go faster. What a guy.... there's not many like you around.

Oh, just one more word on "loosing" weight.

Some of that stuff you get "loose" on there MAY fall off and be LOST while you're driving down the track.

Wouldn't want you to be penalized and LOSE the race because of LOOSE equipment. If that happened you might LOSE your temper and let LOOSE a flurry of fist right on the track officials nose and cause him to LOSE consciousness whereby you might LOSE your freedom, be locked up and want to get LOOSE. IF you couldn't get LOOSE you might LOSE your house and LOSE your Vette whereby you could LOSE your sanity, be locked up again and want to get LOOSE again. All this could cause a few screws to become LOOSE in your brain and you may be give a frontal lobotomy whereby you would LOSE a portion of your brain...

Obviously the misuse of the terms LOSE and LOOSE have already caused all the above to happen to me.

. :banghead:  :lolg: :nono: :nonod: :iagree:

Remove yourself and remote control it down the track.

Re: Putting my C4 on a diet (vetteman9368)

All of the above, plus removing the government mandated 5mph impact absorbing bumper reinforcements, remove passenger seat, get a lightweight roof panel or run with it removed if you can (especially if you have a full cage because it is no longer needed to stiffen the body) Also I would recommend moving the battery to the passenger side rear storage compartment. It won't make your car lighter, but it will help weight distribution as C4's are notoriously light on the RR tire. I would think this would benefit both road and drag race cars.

I think I'll be satisfied with just the A/C and heaterbox and no sound deadener, Jim...But thanks for the additional suggestions, I'll keep them in mind if it doesn't break into the 8's...
